Leathers often droop when stressed. How can I tell if its dying. Maybe it will just shed and recover.

In my experience, leathers are really hardy. Unless the tissue is starting to fall apart (as opposed to shedding), the leather should bounce back.

Well, looks like the MR crew will have to pull together once again to help out fellow reefers. My firehouse isn't far from Astoria and it seemed every manhole there was on fire. I was thinking about you Gary.
I will be exhausting some of my resources by helping stock other tanks. I will still do what I can for those posting on this thead. I do ask though that those of you who had problems set up a backup plan. You might buy a UPS/generator/invertor and not have to use it. But think of it like a spare tire. You may not notice it's there, but you're sure glad it is when you need it.

I am in queens, if i have to i can setup a rubbermaid container or something to hold some things. Just PM me if you need the help. I haven't lost power, hopefully they will start restoring it soon, the weather is getting cooler.

Con ed really sucks, there's no need for this to happen, i thought the blackout of 04 was enough for them to figure it out.

Best of luck to those in need, don't hesitate to ask for help.

Yikes! I'm in Queens and have been lucky that we didn't lose power here. 3 days without power?! Unforgivable!!! :smash:

I also can hold some corals in my tank and can set up a rubbermaid container to hold livestock temporarily if anybody needs it. I'm in 11435.

Yes. Airaeting will do so much to help out.
Some guys survived past blackouts simply by disturbing their water surface with a spoon all night. Battery operated pump will at least give you a chance to sleep.

Wow guys. Sorry for all of the losses. I'm in Jamaica, Queens. Anyone need help with holding corals just ask. Don't have access to a car right now, but I can meet in the city or you can come over. PM me. I also have an 800watt inverter but no battery at the moment if anyone wants you borrow.

There have been lots of offer of help, and I am still available to help if anyone needs it. I can hold some corals untill power is back up, and I know others have offered to set up some holding tanks as well. The problem with this forum, is that those who need the help probably don't have easy access to this site. If you know of someone who needs assistance, pm me or contact one of the others who have offered help so that we can reach out to those in need.

As I inidicated early, I am only available tonight- I am headed out for the weekend tommorow morning. If I lose power, I have advised my brother in law (house sitter) to manually airate the water with a spoon until I return.

Matt, spend $50 and buy a UPS, plug one of your powerheads in and have a "good" trip.

that's what happens when you don't use smiley faces. I plan on removing the ups from my computer and running one of my smaller powerheads through it.

The thought of my brother in law, sitting there the entire weekend with a spatula and a frown on his face, slowly stirring my tank was too much for me.

anyway :help: is available if anyone needs it.

Lower Westchester got hit pretty hard including White Plains/Scarsdale and some parts of Yonkers...I was fortunate enough not to have it so severe in New Rochelle.....I went to work yesterday morning to find a massive tree across central avenue which knocked power out to most places along the strip including my job.... (no work for me that day)....Hope all is well to anyone who lost power....:division:
