I had no power for 4 days, lost a few fish, but managed to save all my corals.

Chong, with all due respect, that's great news. I'm terribly sorry you lost anything, but 4 days could have/should have been a catastrophic loss. I'm sure it wasn't easy or fun. You're to be commended on a job well done. Kudos to you. Let us know what you lost and if we can do anything to help you get back to square one.

Gary, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It must have been a horrific 6 days, and not only because of the tank.

Please let me know when you're up and running, stabilized, and most importantly, all set with a contingency power backup plan in place. House of Fish would like to be the first to donate a fish to your rebuilding/restocking. Good luck and next time don't be shy, utilize the offers of the rest of the great members of MR.

Russ, 6 days is hard, when you have a family.:splitspin Power backup plan for six days, you can do it only with a generator which makes too much noise for NYC.:tank:
Thank you House of Fish for the offer, but i will accept the fish only if i pay what ever the fish cost to you guys. :fish:
I will accept a frag as donation:).
Russ, i know you have some nice softies in your tank.:)
Thanks
Gary

I lost power in SI for about 5 hours yesterday, and i actually have a batt air pump on order. now i really see the importance of having a plan and some contact #s. Its one of these things that you kind of ignore till it happens to you. This is my first summer of reefing, i guess this happens all the time every summer.

a co worker just informed me that 3 grids have gone out in washington heights. i really hope that last one doesn't go out. that will be my ass. i'm glad that yesterday i was able to buy 2 battery powered pumps and put several bags of water in the freezer. i hope that will help some.

I know that there where brown outs in astoria last night, as well as some full scale blackouts througout Queens. This is starting to feel like California.

Not sure if it's true but here's an email I received.

My friend's dad works for ConEd - he just called and told her not to ride the subways any more today, as we will likely have a blackout. ConEd is sending all non-essential employees home right now so they can shut down power to their building. From yesterday's heat, Manhattan has 4 feeders out, putting a big strain on the system. He said in his 30 years working there, he's never seen ConEd act like this, especially at 10:30 in the morning. He said not to panic, but not to take a chance if it can be helped - avoid riding the subway if at all possible.

From Con Ed's website:

UPDATE:
Con Edison Urges Customers on East Side of Manhattan to Reduce Their Use of Electricity

NEW YORK -- Con Edison crews are repairing seven feeders in two East Side networks.
Four of 24 feeders are out of service in the Madison Square network, which serves approximately 29,400 customers between 14th Street and 30th Street, from Fifth Avenue to the East River.
Crews are working on three of 12 feeders in the Kips Bay network, which supplies electricity to approximately 23,700 customers between 30th Street and 40th Street, from Madison Avenue to the East River.
The company is urging all customers in these areas to discontinue their use of non-essential electrical appliances and equipment until problems on electrical equipmentcan be resolved.
Con Edison headquarters on Irving Place is on its own generation.
The company is in constant communication with the New York City Office of Emergency Management.

 Why would an email say Con Ed is closing their building when they have their own generation? Plus, how would 'essential' employees continue to work if there's no power in the building? Hmmm. Anyone know?
