Like an idiot I dropped a stainless steel screw in the tank as I was trying to run wires in my hood....I know I'm an idiot. Fell in between my rocks and i cant reach it. Question is (and I'm sure I know the answer already) do I tear apart my tank and get it....or ????? Opinions appreciated Thanks

top quality stainless that has low carbon content is not magnetic, but that isn't the stainless we deal with. I'm sure the screw is magnetic. one way to find out.

I'm a boat mechanic by trade and I work a lot with stainless screws/bolts and when you drop a screw in the bilge and you can't reach it you leave it. Magnets are hit or miss on stainless. It depends on the grade of stainless.

Would it be detrimental to leave it in there till tomorrow? I have several magnets at work to try tomorrow

I also have a stainless steel scalpel handle which is magnetic, but the stainless steel screws I bought from Home Depot at NOT magnetic. So its likely as pointed out above, that it depends on the grade of stainless steel.
