Look similar to the won bros proheat II, why you getting rid of it?

WON Bros. heaters are horrendous. They are known to fail. I've had three (two different models though). The two that were the same model failed. The one I have left is the 300w digital Pro Heat II. It has not failed, YET. I have been wanting to replace it for quite some time.

With two new threads in the last month about failed WON Bros. heaters, I decided not to wait any longer. I'd rather replace before the failure than say, 'Damn, I've been meaning to replace that heater', after it crashes my tank. Besides, I'm in the middle of organizing a GB for drygoods and that helped to make the timing perfect.

ProHeat II is the better heater and i have 3 of them myself for 3 years and no problems knock on wood. My friends also own ProHeat II and no problems.

What makes you think your ProHeat II will fail? I ask because i am concerned myself. I've been trying to figure out what would cause a heater to fail? That finnex looks just like the Proheat II, just a different casing.

Swimmer,

Albert hit it right on the head - having a controller will cut it out in the event it goes caplouey.

I am planning on setting up my controller to do the same for my Finnex 800w with controller - I like it, and recently suspected it was shooting voltage into the tank - BUT, my recent tearing out and cleaning of my skimmer has me to realize that the stray voltage is coming from my Mag 12 for the skimmer.

So, I like my Finnex and it came highly recommended from Jeremy at PA .

I have the 500w version of the Finnex heater w/controller. Mine came highly recommended by House of Laughter via Premium Aquatics. I've only had it a few months, so I won't speak on its longterm reliability. But, to date, my tank's temperature hasn't wavered from 80.1, unless the room temperature was the cause.

Thanks everyone. I also have one of the finnex. Only 100w and not digital. I only keep that one in my makeup water tub. So not a great gauge of success.

I also want the redundancy through either the ACjr or Ranco.

There is a potential problem with my Pro Heat II though. Occasionally I will see the digital temp readout fall below the setting and the green light is not on, when I believe it should be on. I've wiggled the digital 'control box' in the outlet and I hear an audible clicking noise and the green light comes on. The heater will work for awhile after those episodes. However, now that we're in the heat of the summer, the tank hasn't had the need to call for heat. I highly doubt that it would have 'fixed' itself, and before the heating season starts up, I want a more reliable source.

WON Bros. heater failure thread.

That thread is only one incident on MR I can link you to. If you want more incidents, RC has plenty of threads.

Guess i will be switching to Finnex also, just read this on Premium Aquatics website...

Over heat protection:
The heater equipped with over heat protection feature.
In Case the aquarium temperature over 92F, the alarm will be on and heating will be discontinued.

Anyone tested this to see if it would work?

That's easy. When I get mine in, I'll set it up in a salt bucket with enough water and crank that bad boy up! I'll post the results. Did you want to order any of the Finnex in my Premium Aquatics group buy? I'm ordering the 300w Digital with controller.
