I know Hugo personally and it does not surprise me he does not have a contingency plan for his tank in a event of a power outage(which was very common during the years I lived in socal).

It is sad to see all the hard work gone away like that.

i don't know how i would feel if i was him. that is very sad. i would have had a generator or something. he must feel even more terrible knowing that he could have prevented the whole thing.

how can you lose ALL of your sps in 2 days. these corals endure so much more while being shipped here from the areas where they r collected. at least a week without light and shoddy water conditions.

Probbaly no oxygen, no heat, chiller, sudden changes, etc...

The combination of the lack of oxygen, high temps, and the increase in ammonia, as well as other things breaking down in the tank, will led to conditions where corals will start to bleach or just melt away. Once things start to die it just starts the ball rolling and makes the tank even worst.

Actually a lot of corals die or are damaged during shipping.

Man I really feel for him. Its hard enough to watch a 2 gallon nano crash but 300 gallons?:sad2: I remember seeing his TOTM on RC and I was amazed. Back up plans are something we always say we will get around to until it's too late. I think it is part of human nature. IT's purchasing something that you can not immediatly enjoy or look at. Hope he pulls through.

Some fish also could have died first from the no oxygen and high heat, and naturally the water conditioons went down from there,
