So you're saying you understand that many problems can be caused by using rainwater, yet you're still willing to sacrifice the health and wellbeing of the animals in your charge? IMO this is irresponsible.

:banghead:

Russ

Sorry but I don?t think it will cause health issues with the fish, my tank is 110G, my water change bucket is about 35 gallons, So it?s not like I?m filling up my tank with rain water, & I did have a reactor hooked to it for 24h with Seachem MatrixCarbon & Seachem PhosGuard .
I think some of us are just over reacting.

When I was new to SW I used tap water for the 1st6 months in the hobby, my fish where healthy, but had hair algae problems, thenI got my RO/DI with a the drinking kit for the family and I?m happy I did, after seeing the how nasty the sediment filter looks when changing it, I waslike, WOW AND MY FISH WHERE IN THAT!!!

There is a guy I meta block over from me he has a 125 gallon for that past 20 years, not reef butjust fish and some live rock he has algae problems but fish are super healthy, and he is using tap water for the past 20 years!!! So some rain water??? I don?tthink it will bother my fish.

Is this a joke??
You use rodi on regular basis and you are gonna use rain water?
How is this in anyway more convenient? What could possibly be the benefit?
If there is an upside to this its probably a 1 in a bazillion chance.
Rain On!!! Cue the rain dance music.

Now!

I do water mitigation for a restoration company. We treat rain water floods the same as a sewer backup because of the bacteria that can be carried in. I definitely wouldn't put it in my tank. I don't even let my dogs drink it if it accumulates anywhere in the backyard

I'm not sure if he meant getting the water from runoff from his gutter..I think he meant a bucket in the open getting filled with rainwater.i use to use water from a natural spring from my in laws property in the Catskills.after running it thru a filter I checked the water with a tds meter and the results where "0"

i don't think the bucket was just left out in the open.....it would have to rain like the amazon for weeks to get 35 gal. of rain water.

ariel, what is the point of using the rainwater for the tank? if you want to conserve water and not throwing it away, why not use it for the washing machine or even flushing your toilet?
