Lol why you gotta bring Bali into it? That's not the LED selling point. It's the full spectrum total controllability that your paying for. And less that ecotech once again. They act like they are apple or something with proprietary technology. Just coz you know the name of people who work at EcoT don't mean your not over paying

They do offer nice features that others may/may not have. They do charge a premium for them, and that is their right.

To some, those features are absolutely worth it and they are happy at the price paid. What isn't talked about a lot is how products actually perform, and if you really need the extra features.

To me, "lightning storms" just end up stressing your fish, and it is scary to walk into a room and see your light zap itself randomly. A LED colored light show does nothing for the tank inhabitants. The small footprint traps in a TON of heat, and is hot to the touch, which may lead to premature fan/led failure.

When people share actual usage of products like in these forums, it helps inform people better than marketing speak to see if they feel they are getting their moneys worth.

There's a new controller coming out sep 7 by a diff company lets see if they charge $500 or lower the price point for us "non Ferrari buying" people who don't make 80k or " trust babies" who never pay rent. Ill pay upto $200 if they include at least 8 outlets full Internet access and every probe included free until then ill check my ph w my $4 test kit.

I doubt that would be possible since a pH probe is minimum 40$... That might be why you have Beckman institutes on every US campus (he invented it)

If a controller is so essential for a tank it shouldn't be priced where only 5% of people can afford it. Who cares about ph anyway seriously. I just look at it like I look at cars, I can never afford one so to me I don't cAre about all its features and how it can email me or whatever, people get by w out cars or controllers, but those who can afford it feel like its necessary just like cars. I take the train and I am my tanks controller. For now

Well you did say probe, I was replying to this message:

pH is an easy way to see if something might be going wrong in your tank, before it starts showing with dead animals.

Not even a refractometer?!?! That is so much easier than the plastic thing (i cant even recall the name!)

Now I have to consider myself an overpriced gadget when client asked me to feed their tanks for $150 and sometimes $250, testing their pH included. :shhh:

And for the record for $225 you can get a ReefAngel which comes with a ph probe a temp probe 2 float switches and an 8 port relay bar with 2 pwm dimming porta to control leds or pumps.

I dose some home made calcium that costs me about a buck a year. But to care about pH, I would have to have a pH test kit. :bagfish:

Aqua Pro, one year with one of these cost more than all my 42 years of reefing. Reefing actually saves me money because if I am fooling around with my tank, I am not putting gas into the boat. Boat gas is almost $5.00 a gallon and the boat gets about 2 miles to the gallon.

I don't dose nor do I use any filtration except for a skimme that's useless tunze 9002 too finicky. All I do is 10%monthly water changes auto top off and $20 heater and $20 fan for temp control on a $8 timer. I'm good for over a year so far

Sure, you can run a tank without a controller, but it makes things really easy. It obviously depends on what animals you plan on keeping.

If you are going for sensitive species, you might need very stable conditions, that are quite painful without automation. You also need to remember that automation in this case does not mean turning on and off at a given time, but actually taking the tank conditions (pH, temperature, ...) into account.

ps: regarding your Tunze 9002, there are multiple mods to make it better. pm me if you want details.

I didn't mean you. For anyone who is actively adjusting their levels in an automated fashion, having 24/7 monitoring and alerts can help avert a certain disaster.
