Another reason for this thread is hopefully people can recommend cheaper alternatives to popular expensive gadgets for those who seek this info

Well... Neptune Aquatics (the company that makes the Apex) regularly sells out of these controllers, from what I've seen. I don't think a few people complaining about how "overpriced" these are will make any difference.

People have complained over and over about the high price of MP10s and 40s but Ecotech hasn't lowered their pricing. Even with the knock off pumps entering the market.

Right but how much money and future customers did ecotech lose simply because of a little word of mouth about the wp25/40. I think your right they won't lower prices but thanks to some smart Chinese folks a bunch of us reefers can save a ton of $$ now. If it wasn't for forums I doubt people would know about these cheaper alternatives.

And If companies didn't care what we think, they wouldn't be able to provide us w the kind of products we want. They listen and I'm pretty sure they have some "spies" on All these forums.

Actually, after reading this thread I researched the WP line and am proudly picking up an MP10wes tomorrow. The features and reviews don't compare and I'll be buying a perfectly priced gadget for my tank.

This thread solidified my opinion that you get what you pay for.

I just added another mp10Wes to my cube. I couldn't be happier.
2 mp10s on the back wall and It looks like I don't even have power heads In the tank.
Over 500 dollars in power heads and I'm glad I spent the money.
I wouldn't put the wp's in my tank if they paid me 500 to use them.
Big and clunky is not what I'm looking for. I could get that in the mirror.

9 out of 10 will chose a wp25 if they do research unless your a baller then you must have the best. Btw your mp10 is weaker than wp25 so ur paying extra $300 for less flow to save 1/2" of space in tank. Your the 1/10 exception IMO. There's nothing about any pump that should cost $300 unless its a commercial size heavy duty.

I bet if it was an external motor version of the wp25 for an extra $50 option to save that 1/2" let me guess you still wouldn't buy the jebao right?

Exactly. I'm still extremely happy with my Tunze and MP10 combo. There's no way in hell I'm buying a Jebao.

I'm not a baller (at all actually). I just believe in good, solid, proven equipment. I've said it before... I can't afford to go all out on a large tank, so I have a smaller tank with nice gear. Works very well for me.

I'm not a baller or whatever that means. ( I actually had to look that up)
I am however a big fan of service, and vortech has proven time and time again that they are truly a service oriented company. Not to mention that the product is proven and has a battery backup system without having to place a car battery in my living room, or some such Mr. Bungle contraption.
I generally spend the money to get a proven quality product when I'm intersted in the subject. And no I'm not rich, or even close to it. But if I enjoy something I will save the money to buy what I feel is the best option.
As for GPH. My tank is 24x24x20. I think 2 mp10's is enough. I only have them at 1/2 power as it is.
If I need more GPH there are mp40s and 60s and tunze and korillas that have stood the test of time.

To complement what Chemchef is telling... some people are not just rich enough to afford the copies...

I remember when I started in this hobby, I went with the cheapest possible pump. 10 years later when I get back to it... I did some research and got a Vortech directly.

I could understand the reason of using the MP10, they are very sexy to me but not the 40s. I have both, but the 40 fail on me and some what fail in my friends place.

What were you using before the 1st mp10, did you hate those and did they pay you more than 500 to put those on? What's the reason to use them in the first place? Did they fail the good look test or did they fail the quality test?

I used all sorts of power heads in the 30+ years I have had fish tanks. Korallias, maxi jets, rio, Boyu, AquaClear.
Some failed and some did not. I have had an mj 1200 in almost constant use for 15 years.
But it is also about the wide flow you get with the vortechs, and controllability.
I like maxi jets and aqua clears simply because I can use the AC one size filter cartridge to polish the water.

I find all of them bulky. That's the main reason I went with the vortechs.
I bought one used about 2-3 years ago and replaced a korallia with another mp10 last week that I got for Father's Day.
So if a comparison is in question. The two vortechs are better than one vortech and one korallia.

BTW.
Most overpriced gadget in the aquarium hobby.

Glass cleaners.
Mag floats and such.

Two magnets, some plastic, a Velcro strip and some felt. 10 bucks should cover that.

Ok I'll say it Vortechs are sexy lol
I have 4 of them.
Yes they were expensive.
Yes worth evey penny.

Some people own mac computers because they are sexy also;)
To each there own but this thread really comes off as your mad at the world because you haven't put yourself in a position to be able to afford the pump s you really want?
Which I am not mad at you for...... Just saying !

O yes and one more thing when people come over and look at my take no one ever said look at that big broke ass power head the size of a grapefruit lol
And for that I am happy.

Saying something is overpriced isn't at all saying its a crap product. If in two years these jabeo pumps haven't gone the way of a half a dozen other brands the tune here might change. People have faith in sexy label$ look at Chemipure, it's GFO and GAC, nothing more; add elite and it throws in some DI resin which is only usefull in a marine tank for moments. 2 part is another example. Calcium reactors also cost more than they need to. Large package light hoods have always dismayed me why people buy them; I can't help but think these led packages are the same way. My canopy and stand is a cabinet made from hardwood veneer plywood, figured maple and soapstone, my out of pocket was a can of spar, a pack of 1/4" shelf pins, and a new bottle of glue, everything else came from left over materials; to me tank stands cost way too much.
Equating "cost too much" with "waste of money," or "your to poor to afford it so why cry about it," I could even add "snake oil" is wrong. Why do threads like these need to be spammed into debate? This kind of thread could be a great place for people to come and see that there are more reasonable options. This hobby is not cheep.

After years using koralias I have a Vortech MP40WES with the battery backup.
And I will be getting a $300 Apex controller this weekend.
I spent more than that on a skimmer and lighting the tank was the most I spent.

I have zero regrets because I know I am also buying the kind of support that stands behind these products. They are high quality and dependable unlike a lot of new products that are completely unproven.
I get it, you are cheap and look to squeeze the most out of everything. But what you fail to understand is the amount to money spent living inside the tank is far more than the equipment running it and when you reach that level in this hobby you realize the investment is worth it.
This is like drinking fine wine from a crystal glass while you are reaching for a Dixie cup.
So when your jaebo garbage crashes your tank, which it might, good luck with Alibaba.com or whatever truck that pump fell off standing behind their product.

Why would a jaebo crash his tank? I have 2 of them in my tank, now I'm thinking I should remove them because you say they are garbage. But then again I must be cheap I guess and I'm looking to squeeze the most out of everything

I think saying jaebo will crash his tank is just as bad as saying Vortech is not worth it.
But for me and what I think Imbarrie means is the jaebo is a knock off product that is cheaply made and not worth the risk of something cheep that is electrical in a expencive tank.
