I used it for a year and a half and recently switched to ESV and I don't ever see me going back.
IMOP No reason for these over amped up salts to stress out your corals, sea water peramiters are what they are and adding more Ca,Alk,Mag IMOP plays on the "more is better" ignorance.

Not to mention ESV mixes crystal clear and you can use it as soon as your temp is right.

Hey Thanx Mike I will take that into consideration .. I guess if everything is in the salt there is really no need for dosing...just large water changes?

Well I didn't say no need to dose,if your coral is up taking Ca & Alk
You may still need to dose to keep your peramiters up until the next water change but I see no reason to amp up your levels Above what normal sea water is

I just checked my mag last night and it was reading low at 1030 with a salifert kit..also my cal is at 380 and alk at 8dkh..

Yes, the 2 part dosing will raise your salinity level.

First time I heard that. There shouldn't be any salt in your 2 part...
Neither Sodium Bicarbonate/soda ash or Calcium Chloride contains salt that would raise your salinity. These elements should be mixed using RO/DI water, not saltwater.
Maybe its that ESV 2 part your using. Trying mixing your own.

This thread is the first time I've ever heard bad things about Red Sea salt. I was about to get a bucket of It but now thinking maybe stick w tropic Marin even though its $$

I was a big advocate of Red Sea Pro and used it for almost 2 years and it mixed ok but after switching to ESV there is absolutely no comparison as far as mixing it.
ESV you have to just about touch the water in the bucket to tell if its in there or not lol.

I have yet to hear a person say they went from using ESV to Red Sea salt

Even that shouldn't be a problem. I usually let my water mix for 2-3 days before I do my water change. I use a mag 5 in my mixing container. Never had a problem.

Hey mike as you know the Red Sea salt does leave a heavy residue behind..I wonder if that might raise pH in anyway?

i love red sea pro. i do 5 gallon water change in my 34 solana once every week or every week and a half. everytime i do water change my parameter goes off. i am going back to good old Reef crystal.
