HI MR-

Has anyone come across this issue with their Blue Hippo Tang?

I've done some research and some claim its because the fish is not getting enough vitamin A, C.

That the use of Activated Carbon can influence this.

Poor Water quality, in the sense that high nitrates are present.

I just want your advice on how to treat this issue.

Rideit6578, you got me on that one. I've tried feeding my hippo seaweed, but it doesn't seem to like it. I will try dipping it in some garlic extract and vita chem.

Prattreef, I also noted that while doing my research.

There are 4 areas of concern that are suggested-- nutrition, parasitic infection, carbon dust irritation, and stray current. It might very well be a combo of these things or that these might present with a similar appearance and this is what causes the confusion. Honestly, I have never successfully cured it, nor have I have figured out ( to my satisfaction) what the cause(s) are.

I got a hippo tang years ago that had a bad case of HLLE. I soaked nori in Boyd's vitachem and fed it daily. If yours doesn't eat nori, try soaking pellets or mysis in it. I feed some kind of spiraling flakes or nori everyday and I use Boyd's vitachem regularly. I've never had any other fish come down with it. The hippo tang fully recovered from it also.
