So it looks like my tank has suffered from a major electrical shock!!! When I got home I right away realized that something was wrong, all my corals & my 3 anemones where all closed up line never before, invertebrates/cleaning crew are in shock as well & I think some are dead, all fish are just fine and eating like all always, when I opened my stand cabinet my refugim light was in the sump in water, totally covered!!!! I unplugged it right away.
So my question is what will happen to my corals & anemones, (one of them has moved already) and do I just give them some time to get back to them self, or for something like this do I have to do a water change ASAP???

The question is did the light break while it was in the water or did any of the stuff in the light fixture get into the water? If it did then you probably should do a water change and run some carbon. If it didn't then I would hold off on the water change, as your animals are already stressed out enough and a water change will only make it worst. Just remove any dead things and watch the tank, if everything is good then you should be ok.

Nothing you can do at this point. You invented a cure for a massive outbreak of Aiptisia.

Think about it this way......lightning hits reefs and that's much more powerful then the juice coming out of your outlet.

Maybe check equipment that would be in your water. Probes, sensors, pumps. Make sure they are operating as normal.

This was the face your snail made :snail:

Like I said, low amps. You don't let go of 600Vac and high amps. Your either knocked off it, blown off it or melt to it. Glad you're ok. But that may explain a few things lol

yea i know what your talking about. something knocked me off of it cause i knew i was done for (and no one was around me). one of the few scary incidents of my life but anyways electrical safety is important when it comes to our reef tanks and lifes. Play it safe, we have our hands in our tanks alot to risk getting blasted

Tony here is a 480v 600amp breaker. Yeah that's a Coke can. Just some of the power stuff I work with.

And our dual, 540vdc battery banks. That's a normal stepladder for scale.

Back to the topic

Update did you loose anything?

Back to the topic:wink1:

Well I did do a water change yesterday. And today ill change the carbon that?s in my reactor.
It looks like I have lost most of my snails, and I think all pods that where in my sump and tank are gone!!!! My tank is mostly a soft corals reef tank, they all look like they are still in some stress but some of my polyp corals are opening up now. One of my three anemones did disconnected himself from the rock he was on but I got him in a net, but he looks like he is going to be ok. ALL FISH ARE IN GRATE CONDETION!!!!
I think there was more than just the electrical shock affect here, I think something was realest into the water, the bulbs did not break, but I do know that the light was under water for some time until I got home, ( one of my kids got to it, now I have a lock on the door) the light that I did use was one of the old coralife refugim lights compact fluorescent , I?m thinking if something from the light ballast of the bulbs got into the water because the water did have some white hazey color to its.
I?m so mad at myself my tank was in perfect condition, a simple lock could have prevented all this mess. Witch my wife has told me for some time to get a lock on the door of the stand.
