Hi MR's,
I'm looking for any names of other MR members that make solid well built acrylic sumps. I need to hire someone to build one for my 30g oceanic cube.

Suggestions please!

Thanks
Andre

Cool
I'm thinking a 18 x 18 x 18 solid acrylic sump.
I'm very open to design suggestions.
If you are ever in Manhattan (18th st btwn 5th/6th aves) you could stop by
and see the setup/tank

I want to put my Deltec AP600 inside the sump.
I need to upgrade the return pump
I want some baffles
That's about it

Yeah it's cad. Vector works 9.5 to be exact. (10 years old or so. I just can't afford $2200 for the new version.)

Google Sketch it is a free and easy way to do 3D drawings as well.

I'm really not that fast. I just copied my drawing and changed some dimensions

Russ, you should see my new sump!

You have all the tools, maybe you should setup a little shop to make some money on the side.

Nah. too much trouble. I do all the work in my back yard. Since I'm working on my new setup, all the tools are out. If I had to drag them out every day I'd get pissed. Also, I'm off work till the 15th or so so I have time NOW. sometimes I wont.

Also, once it gets cold i won't the space.

Ok, great rendering!
I'm wondering is it possible to have the baffles cut the sump into a quadrant?
Instead of cutting all the way from back to front... could we make one that cuts the entire sump area into a 1/4 or quadrant?
Bad idea?

I can email you some pics of my current setup
Also, I'm glad you are working now on your setup. I'm hoping to move on this fast too

Thanks
Andre

bad coffee,
send me your email address. I'll send you some pics of my current setup.
I think I want the overflow line inside the quadrant. The skimmer could sit in the other 75%

masterswimmer,
you bring up a good point... I guess I was hoping the baffles in the quadrant would have eliminated all the bubbles. As for the skimmer, the return on the skimmer would have tubing dropping down below the water level.
I think I should stick with tried and true designs for the sump.
I'll get coffee to recommend, since he will be building it! :)

Andre, the real name of a skimmer is foam fractionator. By design they are built to produce foam (bubbles). The discharge being below the water line will not eliminate bubbles. If your return pump is in the same chamber as your skimmer discharge you will be returning bubble laden, turbulent water to your display. The over/under/over design of a bubble trap will release the majority of the bubbles in the middle chamber of the 'trap'.

HTH,
Russ

how about this. The water comes in to the first quadrant, flows over a small baffle to the skimmer compartment. Then flows AROUND a baffle to the return pump.

Think it will work?
