Kres's tank looks awesome under LED's in person. It;s not that blue. Here's an Iphone5 pic that I took. There are many more variables to why his tank looks great. It's not just the LED lighting.

Maybe ai or radion or maxpect u can't change LEDs I'm not arguing that. With my pacific sun (not diy) is easily upgradable and fixable even by the least tech savvy person. Even though it's $800, figure I'll get a good 4 years from it. 200 a year and saving light bill is ok w me. Btw my only 2 sps coral look awesome its chalices that look like crap w LEDs In my tank.

It actually has to do with the level of organic phosphate in the aquarium. A stripped newer aquarium will not support the population of zooxanthellae in SPS corals. Less established tanks with lighter colored SPS will not tolerate the direct focus of LED without fading in color. Hence the acclimation problems with many reefers.

Actually what T5's had AND have going for it is you can choose your spectrum and always have the freedom to change it at anytime. They also have the fact that if a ballast goes you can get a new ballast only. Of a driver for a LED unit blows good bye unit- either to get fixed under warranty or you get to buy a whole new 700 dollar sometimes

So you can't change spectrum w an LED fixture? As far as drivers go they can be swapped out in DIY units relatively easily and quickly. They are the same if not cheaper than a good T5 ballast. WHY would you have to buy a whole new fixture because a driver went bad? Send it back to the manufacturer and have it replaced. Doubt it's gonna be $700 lol.
