so I recently purchased a new bottle of purigen but this time i didn't get the prebagged, figured I would buy the bottle and bag it myself so I picked up a mesh bag @ max reef but the mesh wasn't fine enough and now I have purigen floating around the tank. Once it settles not a big deal but when I turkey bast the rocks and the sand bed it's a zoo!!!

I'm assuming it's not doing any harm to the fish can coral cause they're all eating and growing just fine but I hate the way the tank looks. Any ideas on how to get all that stuff out?

Ps. to avoid it from happening again without having to get a new bag or completely removing the purigen bag, I put another piece of floss under the purigen to catch what may come out. Just a temp fix until I get a new bag...just didn't want to waste what I had already bagged.

Wow, I don't know how to get it out but I'd just second that the mesh bag i bought with my bttle of purigen some years ago definitely did not fit.

I found that out when I rinsed it though (did you rinse it as indicated and do it in the mesh bag before putting in the tank?) That's how i noticed it wasn't the right pore size before releasing it into my sump.

Anyway, to help, if you plan on using it again, I now only use panty hose/stockings.
Any 99cent store will have some sheer stocking for like $1.

You can use so much of it:
2 feet portions
sections of the legs (just tie up both ends)
and the hip portions (just tie it properly)

All of that is tons cheaper than the mesh bags anyway and can work for a lot of the media we use in this hobby.

@LBC - YES, thats exqctly what it looks like a snow globe

@Dubs - Rookie mistake blood....best believe it won't happen again

@tunicata - i rinsed but didn't think much of the few flakes that came out but woke up the next day to a purigen snow storm in the tank.
