So after building a platform for 2 55 gal barrels I really wAnted to use that space to add a ats and fuge so I decided ill be storing the barrels in my boiler room it's not blocking anything question is what pump do I need to pump the salt /rodi water into the display / fuge do I need seperate lines or is 1 enough?
I was considering using a sub pump with a hose but I really want this too be easy so I do the waterchanges every 2 weeks not 3-5
The barrels r a good 20 ' from tank

Use a mag 18 or 24
I did this in my water change system and the bigger the quicker it takes to change
My mag 24 takes about 1min to put 55gals in tank and I used a 1" valve off my main discharge pump to pump out water from my sump...very easy
One day I have to stop by since I see you might need some other ideas
Big builds take thinking and good ideas from others :)

my tank , sump/equipment room and water storage area are in the basement. the water storage area, also in the boiler room, is a good 50 feet away from the sump room. there are 2x 45 gal. brute containers for ro/di, one for mixing the salt and one for storing and pumping the fresh saltwater to the sump. i run a flexible garden hose(replaced the brass fittings with the plastic ones.) up the drop ceiling(~8' height) across the basement and down to a multiple valved manifold a couple of feet near the sump. the same manifold is also used to pump away the old water to the drain via a mag 24 (7+ min. for 40-45 gal.) i'm using a mag 36 to pump the fresh saltwater in. it takes about 14 min. to replace the old water. each water change takes about 1/2 hour without any lifting....just quick connect the pumps and turn a few valves and voila 40-45 gal water change.

Ok so I'm thinking I'm gonna need a mag 24 gonna look for a used one to pump the water from the barrels I'm thinking I'm gonna need 2 separate lines because when I'm done pumping the whole line will have left over water in it till next time I pump?

A hose might work out rather then bothering with piping it out! are there any cheap pumps that I can use like a basement sub pump or maybe I can find an old pump on ebay or something!

I have 3/4 outlet off my return that I'm gonna get a plastic hose bib To use hook up a hose run too my sink that's a great idea what do u guys do blow all the detritus off rocks sump etc then drain it from return for weekly wc then once a month break out the python clean sand etc....

cesspool?

dear all,

Im building a sump room in my basement for my 225 gal on ground floor and it is good to see all the useful discussion on this post.

Question: I have cesspool at my house where all my waste water drains - is it advisable / safe to dispose saltwater and run pipe to drain directly into cesspool , or drywell, ... or some other better alternatives?

Thx,

i pump the old water to a storm drain.
i have a buddy who valves the sump to gravity drain directly to the sump pump in the basement and i think it eventually goes to the septic tank for years without any problems.
perhaps people with septic system can chime in about whether it's bad to dump saltwater into the septic tank.

Tom do u run 2 lines or 1
I'm worried if I pump saltwater into tank /sump then I pump rodi to my top off it will also get what ever salt water is left in pipe!

Also
? For u guys who do lg water changes this way do u first blow all detritus off rocks and bottom of sump then pump water out??

i only pump salt water to the sump during water change.
my top off(a 3 gal. containerstore's pet food container with a float valve)gets a line tee'd off from the good water line that goes to my brute rodi storage which also has a float valve. 3 gal is more than enough since the ato's float is set to fill when about 1/2 gal has evaporated. the rodi unit fills the top off container quicker than the rate of evaporation. also it can only fill 3 gal. max, even if the float got stuck on. my top off is connected to a kalk reactor.
i use a turkey baster to blow the detritus off the rock a few minutes before shutting the main pump down.....whether the detritus makes it to the sump, i don't know, i don't really pay attention to that.
the old water is pumped out from the sump and fresh saltwater is pumped in.

Tom would u mind posting pics of ur top off so ur 3 gal container will not overflow even if float gets stuck?
Do u have any redundancy on the rodi brute float switch

what i meant was that with the top off container having a max capacity of 3 gallons, if both of the floats(sitting in the sump) on the ato get stuck on, there's only 3 gal. in the top off container that would get pumped into the sump(via a tom's aqualifter). 3 gal. into a 300 gal. system is not really too significant also the ato is on a controller that turns it on and off every half hour. plus i have a rodi shut off switch sensor that sits near the sump that will detect any overflow of any sort and shut the rodi flow into the top off container while sounding a warning alarm.
the rodi brute containers each have a brs mechanical float.... so yes they could potentially overflow but they are in the boiler room, an unfinished part of the basement so the potential damage is not tremendous. the boiler, water heater, and well pump controller are elevated on cement platforms. i do have a water sensor that would sound an alarm if there's any water on the floor. so hopefully my wife or kids would call me in such a case. and i taught them how to shut down the rodi unit.
knock on wood!

I need some help for sure coming up with this mixing station fist thing I gotta do is tap directly into a water line because right now I have It Hooked up to my slop sink with a 2 way hose bib this leaks but it didnt matter b4 because i shut it on and off as needed and it leaked into slop sink only when I was making water!

So that's first I'd like too tap directly into a water line I'd also like to have a ball valve so I can shut it on and off!
Any recommendations on this I will add a few pics I have the extra copper fittings and tubing and solder to run the pipe but might have to open up wall a bit to get torch in under slop sink!

Basically I wanna set this up too auto shut off but I would not leave it on all the time say every sat I'd open the valve let it do its thing so Sunday I can do wc and shut the valve to rodi and not worry about it till next sat I don't trust float switch enough to just let run 24/7 but need a safe guard because I'm a forgetful busy person and if I flood my new basement carpet 1 more time my wife will flip !!

Lol you flooded it already Matt?!?!?! You haven't been there for that long. If you're worried about that I'd just set it up with floar switches and an ato brain but not leave it running if theres any doubts. I don't even leave the house when I make ro water for that reason.
