Hey everyone i recently bought some live sand from a fellow member just wanted to know if i should clean it out or just leave it and use it? If i should clean it how do i go about doing so?

Get one of those big 28+g totes and rinse with either tap water if you don't mind making it not live or salt water if you wan't to keep it live. If using tap do a final rinse with RODI water.

i completely missed that you got it used from another member... if he gave you everything even from the bottom of the tank i would rinse that completely and really well. Me personally would have started off with new dry sand or live out of the bag and added 2-3 cups of that existing sand to seed.

Not tap water!!!!! Ro/DI water for your rinse. Swish and repeat. There is not sure way to eliminate all pathogens but this comes close as most cann not survive long in fresh water.
Coincidently, why buy "live" sand if you are going to kill the live port of it to clean it? If buy clean you mean remove some of the gunk then use saltwater for your rinse. stir the sand and vac the settle off the top.
