I've heard they are worse than a waste of money, they're a fire hazard. Heuerfan's link seems to mention that as well.

I looked into these, and read those fifty pages of discussion on RC and in the end i decided it just wasnt worth burning the house down to save a few bucks AND it turns out half of the units shipped came with tar ballasts which were incompatible with the DE halide bulbs the fixture uses. I think this is a case of too good to be true.

Supposedly in the link i provided the guy mentioned that they updated the ballast for their 2007 version. So there should be no more fires, who knows?

Everything electronic in nature has incidents of fire, look at Dell laptops & Apple Computer. Even icecap is not exactly bulletproof. The only reason Aquatraders has been on the hit list is mainly because of how cheap their products are. Personally I would not buy another Aquatraders product only because of how much work was involved in getting it to where I wanted the product to perform.
