From what I have read in the past about using 4x4 posts, is that they have a tendancy to twist. I have built many decks, in the past and I will say they do twist. Now if that holds true for untreated wood I can't say.
I build my own stand for my 450 almost 4 years ago using 2x6 and 2x4. and its still up

I also have built many decks and know that treated lumber has a tendency to warp and split. I've used douglas fir untreated 4x4's for large shelving units in garages and never had an issue with warping. That's why I used it on my stand and 3 yrs later have no problems.

There is a thread on reef central and the gentleman rocketman I believe his name is has a more detailed explanation on why they should not be used as supports for a aquarium. Everyone has there preference. Yours seems to be 4x4's. My preference depending on the overall span would be 2x's. Besides if you were to use 4x4's as vertical supports, what would you for the top frame to connect to your verticals? 4x4 also?
