< kept seahorses for 7 yr's. and no they dont need more room then you would think as they seldom travel far from a small area in the wild unless they get swept away in a current. join seahorse.org if you are planning to start keeping them also there isa sub-forum on reefcentral dedicated to seahorses and pipe fish
once they start spawning was one of the things that kept me keeping them, but the raising of them is alot of work and a decent investment and alot of dedication, i tried a few times before i knew i didnt have the time or space for all the extra stuff to raise them. 37g column would make for a nice tank also
they really do need a cooler tank, kept mine at 73 degree's, never worried about parms much other then nitrate, i personally only would do a wc once a year, but kept 0 nitrates do to all the macro algea in the tank, cal was 380 alk 8 and mag 1300
I have a 30gal half moon tank with a pair of seahorses. They have breed twice so far and the fry haven't survived past about a month. I agree with NYreefNoob it takes alot of dedication, time, and space. Then your not even guaranteed that any will survive.
as bad as it sounds i would put the male in a cage couple days before he dropped babies then i would feed them to my reef tank, figured fresh live food and better then just letting them die with no purpose
My cousin had a single kuda seahorse (I think it was a kuda) in his 65 gallon tank. Bought it when it was pretty much an adult. It lived by its self and thrived with other fish in the aquarium as well as corals. Lived for 2 years in his tank best thing about it was how aggressively he hunted down mysid shrimp!
I heard most seahorse won't even move out of its way to eat unless the good is right by it and I read so much I just wanted to know about tank size and ph.. Thanks guys hopefully I will set it up one of these days if I have time
