I can't believe I'm seeing frags less than 1/2 inch selling for $200 to over $2000. What is happening to this hobby. Besides the crazy names and now selling them at outrageous prices. All I can say is where is this hobby heading towards. All it takes is one crash and you can loss hundreds to thousands of dollars. Is this the right way for this hobby to grow. I wonder how many people will fall in this trap.

It is crazy really. I have been in the hobby for 30 years and this "designer" frag stuff is just nuts. This kind of stuff will cause people to leave the hobby when they lose 10,000 dollars in frags from a stuck heater.

Anyone stupid enough to put all their eggs in one basket will learn the hard way. People buy these are either doing so as an investment and will hedge their bets or money is not an object.

What kills me is all the complaining about it. There is designer/high end products for almost every market segment. Really nothing new here.

Now back to your regularly scheduled MR programming.

25 bucks that the base were most the frags in my tank started and then I grow them out and sell frags for 15 bucks anything outside that is a bit above the bar imo but people can ask what ever they want for there frags doesn't mean anyone is forced to buy it

The manner in which some price the coral is not always based on supply and demand.

There is a lot of "what how some fool will pay what ever we ask"

Those that set those astronomical prices understand the psychological factor of this hobby and play it to their advantage.

I simply pity the fools that drop 5k on a frag and then have to hide it from their spouses or significant others and quietly pay the credit card bill for god knows how many months or years

I personally would not, I dont enjoy frag racks in my tank and have no interest in setting up a frag tank and I dont enjoy dealing with the people that reserve 3 frags at $10 each and show up with only $17.

Some folks buy coral with intentions of growing it and making a profit
Some folks frag to partially recover what they spent
Some folks sell because they recorate their tanks

The person that will likely frag for fad is the person that is selling frags at store prices

I'm guilty of I must have a coral. I had to get Red dragon. I just don't know but I had to get it. But if it was over $75 I won't of got it. That is the Max I would pay for any frag. I have limits so I can wait t'ill the price drops or do without it.
