This type of thread has been attempted but has always gotten side tracked.

The Rules
Post a pic of your tank or another tank

List the brand halide bulbs being used (specify DE or SE, wattage, and supplemental lighting used)

Please list the ballasts that the bulbs are being run on as this greatly effects the bulb color

If possible post pics with and without the supplemental lighting

Set your white balance to show an accurate color of the lighting

Most importantly Do not comment on this thread. This will be strictly for reference. The pics and info provided will tell it all.




2x250 DE BLV 10k's (PFO mini pendants) run on a Dual PFO HQI ballast. 3 URI VHO actinics are on in this pic run on an Ice Cap 660 ballast.

I'll throw in a few pictures from my tanks. Both pictures are using the same ballast, but with different bulbs and supplemental lighting. The ballast is a dual 400 watt Hamilton magnetic ballast. The first is my old 75 gallon from when I lived in LA. I was running 2 x 400w 10K Ushio bulbs and 3 x 110w VHO super atinics. I don't have any pictures of just the MH bulbs, unfortunately.

The second picture is of my tank's current setup (although I am changing my setup next week). I'm just running 2 x 400w 15K XM bulbs with no atinics. I am switiching back to 10K bulbs now, because it seems like there is a better range of color. The XM bulbs have given good growth and decent color, but everything is a bit too blue.

Before pic Probe Start MH Ballast running 3 old Ushio 175 watt se 10K bulbs along with 660 Ice Cap VHO ballast running 2 140 watt white actinics.

After pic same ballast running 3 new XM 175 watt se 10K, along with same vho ballast running 1 140 watt super actinic, and 1 140 watt white actinic.

ok here is my 90 running 2x250w xm bulbs 10k on a duel ballast.dont know what it is but i know its magnetic,got this setup from aquauniverse.as for actinics dual 48" t-5 strip.
