I would say .............is NOT about light (what kind , how warm K or Watts) is about space and flow , list that my opinion, i use to give to my local LFS so many times (free) i stop give, i keep tell him he need , more space, more flow , he's Chaeto look just like Steamed Spinach. Vio
I don't think its about flow nor space...lol Sorry VIO
i had a ton of space and have had different flow rates on my sump.
It is Absolutely light... No doubt.
i was using those solar flare LED's and barely any growth...
Thank god they burned on me after only 5 months.
I went to home depot and picked up a clip on aluminum lamp and a 120W equivalent LED bulb that only uses 19.5W. bulb alone was $32.
Its been only two weeks and i can honestly say that i had never though chaeto could grow this fast.
I have grown it from the size of a softball to completely fill my refugium area...
As a matter of fact, if anyone needs it let me know and its yours.
Was this one of the Deep Blue 15 Watt Solar Flare with 4 white less and 1 blue in the middle?
I'm inquiring because that's what I'm currently using and growth is not so good. Maybe I need to get another light.
I'm curious as well about options other than CFL. I've noticed that due to the built in ballast of the CFL it messes with my conductivity probe. Doesn't matter where it is in the sump, as long as the CFL is on, it changes my conductivity.
Is there a consensus yet on what you've chosen @saltwaterinbrooklyn?
I'm still using a reflector and spiral energy bulb , thinking of moving to a indoor plant bulb and see if it increases growth , however , I have noticed that my chaeto has grown very thick and green , it may be time to trim ........
