What lights over your chaeto.??

I have chaeto in my sump and I use a basic light with relflector over my chaeto and I wanted to know what everyone else is using to grow the chaeto in the fuges and sumps under the display tanks?

Compact fluorescent bulb under a basic reflector. I heard Mr. Saltwater Tank say you should replace bulbs every 6 months. I have an extra bulb hanging around but have not swapped it out yet. It just seems wasteful.

Yes, a 23W 6.5K or 5K GE compact florescence bulb from target (or LED from costo)and the $10 workmans clip on lamp with the 4" non-polished aluminum reflector from home depot will work.
If you have 2 of them? forgetaboutit!


Personally I used my old T5 fixture (4 bulbs) where I recycle my used T5 bulbs from the main tank into it to squeeze out the last bit of usable PAR before I discard the bulbs.

I have the Proflex Model 1 sump and I use the JBJ Nano Glo Refugium light.

Wow , a lot of great replies and I appreciate the input .

I just want to grow chaeto at a rapid rate and be able to trim it often and always have a good supply to reefers who need it and for new reefers looking for it ..... As always , free of charge.

Well I have seen people selling it but I think they cultivate the chaeto they have to a certain standard, some have brittle stars and really nice pods and little creatures in it so I have seen people selling chaeto but it's never for a crazy amount of money or a unreasonable fee , however I have received free chaeto that was gross , and on the other hand I have also received that gallon bag with fresh clean and pod loaded chaeto you got me that was amazing and I have given to 5 people now to put into their sumps.

But I'm looking to start a chaeto tank , possibly a 20 gallon with 3 dividers and plenty of holes in the acrylic for the critters to cruis through and a good light over it to grow it out and bring my project to life......high quality chaeto at rock bottom pricing ....... FREE 99!!!!

Not sure .....I was thinking about that, cause I'm trying to swear clear of invasive stuff like caulerpa but dragons breath may be in the plans

I have a 54w par 38 over my refugium and I must say the chaeto and the 5 other macro algae I have has had awesome growth since I started using this bulb 4 weeks ago

Lol I'm glad u enjoyed the big bag of Cheato and was even happier to know it was enuff for everybody. But all I used is the old white led light nondimmerable and I go back and forth with w/b lights on

Thanks again brotha , that bag was among the best I have seen and has helped a few of us on mr , I want to keep that chaeto growing and rolling for future sumps and anyone who may need it.
