When left to spread uncontrolled I've seen them completely blanket the sandbed, rocks, and coral. Obviously no big deal with sand and rock (if you like that look :shocked1: ), however, when they completely cover coral they will block out all light. Not a really good way to sustain coral long term ;)

Oh well in that case I could see them being a problem but if you have a few fish that are known to eat FW you could technically let them feed and even if they don't eradicate them right away it won't be a big deal. The only reason I say this is because I'm always hesitant to use any chemicals in my reef even if they're proven to get the job done. I used that stuff for cyano a long long time ago and it was a disaster, I think it did more bad than good, so after that I kinda just like to take the "natural" way out if possible.

Why take the natural way out if it did more good than bad :duh:

I prefer the natural way as well. Anybody who knows me and my reefing style will attest to the fact that I don't advocate chemicals in a reef tank. HOWEVER, when FW's get to plague proportions, administered properly (see my above routine), FWE can be highly effective and problem free. This is from my personal experience. Not something I'm regurgitating from internet lore.

YMMV so proceed as you see fit.

Update... I have spent my last two days getting situated and yesterday I got down to business and started fwe treatment end result : I saw plenty dead and siphoned them out and my new malanarus wrasse has gone crazy picking at the rocks and is swimming plump!!!! So looks like everything is getting back to normal and I have seen zero effects on my coral .. I will repeat treatment in a few days just to be sure.
