just my two cents. it is always best to match the food to the fish. I try to use as many types of food as I can in my tank. in this way most of the fish get used to eating different types of food. this can come in handy when you run out of something. I prefer to use frozen foods most of the time but also feed algae on a clip pellets and flakes. as for flakes they are not baked they are freeze dried. this process does retain most of the vitamins that are in the food. my cooper band likes live worms and frozen foods my mandarin and two scooters must be eating something as I have them for some time and they seem to be doing well. they do eat frozen food but never seem to act hungry when I feed them. they just grab something if it floats by. it is a 300 gal reef tank two years old with a very heavy bio load. 10- reef damsels yellow tank chevron tang rock beauty angel 8- clown's a sale fin tang a 6 line and a carpenter wrasse and a bunch of other little guys. normal feed is 6 frozen cubes per day 3 of which are shrimp the other 3 are a mix of what ever frozen food my lfs has two 1x1 sheets of algae on a clip once or twice a week some reef food and pellets or flakes feed just once a day. point is there are a million ways to keep a tank none are perfect but most will work if water quality is good. this is what works for me although many will disagree.

I myself feed a mix of pellets, flakes, and frozen foods. In addition i feed a 1/4 sheet of nori everyday.

Like the poster above said, everyone has something different that works. What works for me might not work for the next guy. I say feed a healthy mix of food items and your fish will be happy and healthy. Almost every fish in my tanks eats everything I throw in there, just takes time and they learn.

Awilda I am waiting for it too. My wife is still not doing real well so I have been distracted. But I get to write a couple of hours a week.

Paul, I'm very sorry to read this. I hope, and pray her health will take a turn for the better in this New Year!
May you, and your loved ones be blessed with many blessings in this New Year!

Thanks Awilda.
Nanoreefer, eating something is not that important, most fish will eat many things, but if they are not in breeding condition they are not healthy, even if they are fat. I know plenty of fat people but if they are healthy is a matter of debate. I am sure my fish would eat flakes and pellets, but they never see those things as I want all of them in spawning condition and that means every meal has to be as nutritious as possable and only fresh, whole foods will do that. Unless you have clowns and damsels as they will live quite nicely on cardboard. There is a reason I don't have to quarantine, and that reason is the food but I know I am in the vast minority which is fine. I like having a tank and knowing I "never" have to post in a disease forum and never have to wait 60 days to put a fish in and realize that most of my fish will die of old age or I give them away when they grow to large.
