So yesterday I swapped my 20 gallon sump to a 75 gallon.. Took as much water as I could from old sump Rock chaeto all equipment etc.. Had miracle mud and sand but doing without that as I think rock is a better filtration then that.. Anyways all my fish r looking stressed and corals r all closed up.. I just started using Red Sea coral salt and made sure temp salinity etc was exactly the same as tank water then started the sump back up.. I'm at a loss and don't know what it could be..

Yes, but the sand and miracle mud did have bacteria in it, which was part of your biology filtration, which now is less than before. Also, by moving everything around you stirred up a lot of stuff, some good some bad, which your tank is now trying to catch up to.

I don't think the salt is the issue, Red Sea Coral salt is a very good salt. I would do a small water change and run some carbon or poly-pads.

The only swing I saw was the alk.. I test everything before I swapped everything and it was a 7.7 on reef foundation pro kit and when everything was done went to 10.1.. This is the only concern I had but even when I swapped my display that happen and everything was fine after a day..

What levels? We usually only test for things like Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, Cal, Alk, Ph and such but there are other things in the tank that can be toxic, especially when things get move around. A water change or carbon will help remove these things that we don't test for, which could be your problem. Your system could also just be trying to catch up from losing some of the biology bacteria, which can take days, or a week, to get back to support your load.

Some thing's dont always have a answer. Marrone is correct you changed thing's this probable upset the system / after a water chance my tank doesn't always look as happy as before ,might take a few days it will be back to normal give it time .Keep it as stable as possible.

Thanks guys.. Those r the test I tested and they look fine but who knows what we actually have in water colume.. I do have my gfo and carbon running.. I'll just try and keep levels stavle and hope for the best.. My square anthious is the only one looking stressed meaning laying on sand bed breathing heavy everyone else is just hiding behind rock and some coral open all the way and some closed all the way.. I guess time will tell.. Thanks again

Most are missing the fact your alk swing was very drastic. I believe that would be the issue. I switched over to the same. I think it was a quick shock and probably will be fine. Should have mixed in the old and new slowly. Turned on your return for a few so the water mixed. Turn it off for a few minutes then back on etc.

You are probably fine by now though.

It was like jumping outside with your tighty whities and then jumping back inside after you froze your arse off.

Any new reports on hardy coral starting to open back up?

You'll be fine. Quick shock but it's like they get placed in a new tank. Takes time to open. Everything in acceptable range is a good thing. Just went too fast.

GL and keep us posted.
