whats your opinion on refugiums

The only thing that grows in my fuge is hair algae. Can't keep any macros.

I just remembered I have tried refugiums and they've never worked for me. I tried the middle section of a 29gal Biocube and even with a light on it it just died eventually(dragons breath) or didnt grow(chaeto). Also my 125 gal i tried a 20gal refugium and same story. I actually tried to throw a few of the red macro into my DT but it just got eaten. To this day I've got no idea why.

That's what i do. It's not easy though, it can be challenging at times.

what would it take to set up a stand alone macro tank? My challenge is I don't have a green thumb when it comes to macro.

Tank, light, water and a pump. The challenge is to keep different kinds in the same tank. Some need special requirements such as light intensity and the correct spectrum.
