Not a fan of the plastic honestly... the thing I like about the old products is that they feel very sturdy (and the EB8 are really well built). I have a DOS... it looks like a Playskool toy... and I have not have much interest in those after turning 4 year old.

Android, which is not a real-time operating system... I wish they would have just gone for a Linux with RT patches instead. (after all Android is just an interface on top of Linux).

For something that took six years to develop... I would have expected a bit more on the software side.

But we will see. what matters is reliability.

any updates on thoughts? saw this at reefapalooza. Pretty large, and yes, still looks like a toy even in person. Not too many benefits for me since I have the salinity, and lab ph already and don't need ORP.

There's a thread on rc about several people having major issues with the main brain being corrupt causing tanks to go haywire. One guy came home to the tank completely flooding
I suggest wait a few months to they figure out the issues. Last thing anyone wants is to have a tank crash due to wanting to have the latest gadget
It happened to me when the DOS came out. My serial number is under 500 which all had issues with the heads. Apex replaced everyone's heads no questions asked

I had the Gold and built a nice board to display all the apex stuff. I got the new one a few weeks ago and am not going to be displaying this one im going to stick it in a box i made in the cabinet out of sight. Havent hooked it up you will do next week and see if i will have any problems like a bunch of other people withit disconnecting and what not. Hope not

@jcs- wow, I'll find the thread. I doubt I'd be in the market for this, but it is good to know what the issues/pros have been nonetheless. Surely, I could be enticed to buy used and would need to be armed with info first!

@brane- was hoping you would comment as I saw you got it recently.

Yeah i read about those issues on r2r. Got me paranoid. I just dont like the overall look if it. Think id rather stick it in the cabinet and hook up a ipad display on the board only. Ill be setting up the tank next week. Wife and baby going on vacation thursday so will have the time to setup. Ill let you know what i think.

Side question: has anyone else pre-ordered the Vertex?

I am not going to use it as my main controller (love my APEX) but at the "beta" price it was ok as a toy to play with. However I do consider it very expensive... full price will be 600+ for only a temperature probe... Yes there is the color screen... but I prefer to use a keyboard and mouse and 24 inches screen for anything serious...

I just pre ordered the new Apex! What are your thoughts on the DOS? Should I get it or just use any doser for Part 1 & 2.

Plus, they say you can do a water change with the DOS, has anyone done this and does it take a long time for large tanks because the tubes are so small. I have a 220 and have to change about 40 gallons every two weeks.

Hooked up the Apex to see how it works and am having problems since day 1. Setup was a breeze but im having problem like alot of other people it keeps disconnecting from fusion. Im leaving for vacation in few weeks and cannot setup tank to cycle because no way to monitor tank while im away. Sucks!!

That bites. Did you get assistance from customer service?

I haven't read the thread about fusion issues. Does it disconnect for hours/days or is just that it goes off then will come back on?

I ask because when I was using my apex it would log that it disconnected a ton of times during the day but I never did anything to get it restarted. I didn't have any issues with parameter checks either because the disconnects were so short. I thought it was because I refused to upgrade.

I did not reach out to customer assistance yet will do so some time this week have been busy at work. It would disconnect a few times per day but would never reconnect on its own. I would need to disconnect power from wall and reconnect for it to connect to fusion again

Well i will be in another country for two weeks i would like to be able to monitor my tank! I have leak detectors and various floats for ATO which i would like to monitor. New skimmer which could act up at anytime. So yes i would like to have my Apex up and running while its cycling.
