Is there a local source for getting stuff like this for coral fragging? I'd like to start building a kit of my own. I'm guessing buying it from my vet's office will cost a premium.

Your vet may not even allow you to buy this stuff. You can get most of what you're looking for at a bait and tackle shop. Scalpels will probably be the hardest to get. An Exacto knife from a hobby shop is a good substitute. For the most part, all you need are sharp scissors from a sewing shop or bueaty shop, a set of miniature pliers from Sears and a Dremmel if you're down for some hard-core LPS fragging. Some like a good sharp sushi knife as well.(herman;))

Ebay! You can get just about anything there.

All I use is a dremmel, needle nose pliers, tweezers (dont tell my wife I took the expensive ones please) and a my all purpose Leatherman tool-knife.

Now that I think about it, all I reallly need is my Leatherman! lolol.

Dude, your not doing plastic surgery or anything like that. Go simple and basic and you should be okay. I do think that a dremmel is a good investment. You can use if for your hobby and for just about anything else. If you get one dont forget to buy the diamond coated cutting disk. The other cutting disks are not good for fragging corals.

A basic biology dissection set will run you $12.00 and it can be purchased at any university bookstore. You don't need the medical student set, which is expensive and surgical quality. You can get the basic, undergraduate dissection set which comes with two kinds of forceps, two types of scissors (the fine tip and the clamping kind), a scalpel with two (or maybe three) extra blades, and a probe. They're used for fetal pig dissections, but work beautifully on tank work.

try your nearest university that might have biology or nursing as a major...they will have disecting kits in the book store
...I wish I went to college. Sounds like a good place to get what you need.

thanks for all of the responses everyone. I'll look for the dissection kit in college bookstores. that sounds like a pretty decent price for what you get. i agree i don't need/want the super high quality stuff.
