Yep that's that plan, directions said to yank it during treatment. its clearing up slowly but surely though. Hopefully tomorrow I'll do a 20% WC and add fresh carbon.

Did you try adding bacteria?I had the same problem when I set up my IM nuvo 20 ..I turned off the lights for 3 days,added special blend and it cleared it up for me..and my skimmer started pulling a lot of crap out of the water

Sorry I didn't update. The first treatment cleared most but not all so I did a second treatment and the tanks almost spotless. Between the added flow with the new powerhead and the Chemi clean it's looking good. Tomorrow I'll be doing another 20% wc and adding fresh Chemi pure as well as bacteria as you suggested.

Update. Tank is still looking better by the day, never added any bacteria but I think with the added flow, good skimmer and weekly water changes it's seemed to do the trick.
