Spring water is not the same, and will not have 0 TDS. They all have some dissolved content. It's just fresh water collected, filtered for sediments, sterilized, and bottled. In fact, some spring waters have more dissolved contents than NYC tap water. Distilled water is just that, water distilled by boiling and condensing the steam, leaving impurities behind that have a different boiling point. However, even distilled water may become contaminated through the distillation apparatus itself (there is always the question of whether distilling apparatus with copper piping could leach copper into the water, although I haven't seen any tests on any brands to confirm this).

So, RO (/DI) or distilled can be used, but RO(/DI) prepared at home is economically superior to distilled. Sorry, but spring water won't cut it. Then again, there are some people who do use treated tap water and get away with it for awhile, but with all the money invested in SW, why chance it? NYC tap water is fine for my FW tank though, as a python hooked up to the sink sure beats carrying the buckets around at water change time.....

Thanks for the clarification, Henry. I never knewn we can learn so much about water.

I tested the Distilled water I bought from Duan Reade yesterday and DTS reading was 0 PPM. Just out of curiosity, I may buy a small bottle of spring water test for PPM later and I will post result.

Thanks

Alright, I dont want to prove anyone wrong here. But I just want to see if there is any other type of water I can use for my tank. The more options I have the better it is.

I just tested a bottle of AquaFina purified drinking water. It is 100% water, no additives.. nothing.

TDS reading of 1 PPM. Can I use this water?

Thanks

Low pressure reaching a membrane is most commonly caused by clogged prefilters (the sediment filter or the carbon block).

If you are sure those two filters aren't clogged, then you may just have low line pressure in your house.

Hard to know without a pressure gauge - all our Premium Series units come with pressure gauges - a very handy feature.

A booster pump will solve the issue of low line pressure.

In the pictures of your system it looks like you have a metal fitting on the permeate port of the RO membrane housing. If that's the case you'll want to replace that with an all plastic fitting.

You'll also want to punt the horizontal DI housings - a fundamental configuration flaw - otherwise known as an "ebay special."
