Lissa (ellebelle) recently had the idea of putting up a photo tutorial of how we killed the manjanos and aptasia in her tank. We took the photos and detailed the process.

I was wondering if people would find more of these useful. I would be happy (with Lissa's help of course) to document fragging, plumbing, and whatever else I happen to be doing if other members would find this helpful.

I'm especially interested in the opinions of all the newcomers as to whether or not they would like to see more of these and what subjects they would like to see these tutorials on.

I also think this is a great idea!

Taking it one step further:

I'd especially like to see tutorials that include pictures listed not only under what thread (subject) they cover but also in a Thread of only 'stickied' Tutorials so they can be more easily located without having to search through individual posts.

Not sure if it is possible to list a subject twice. :scratchch

...

tutorials would be cool..even better if we also incorporated the videos..cause they do have some clips on the internet on how to frag things like xenia and other stuff...also have this on its own forum..

Kathy, we could easily make a thread for the actual tutorial. We close that thread and start another for discussion. (the link will to the discussion will be in the tutorial thread.)

Exactly what I was thinking Brett! That way the information stays 'clean'.

DYI is an excellent forum and a few that are already there could be added to this potential Tutorial Forum. There are numerous others that already exist that can possibly be pulled from the threads they are listed in.

I think it's a great idea! Seeing a step by step process makes it so much easier than trying to visualize a written tutorial. Adding video would be a bonus, but I can see that getting unwieldy. I agree with Brett that keeping the thread closed to just the actual tutorial would make it easier to follow, but a link to a thread dedicated to the method would be helpful for tips and approaches that have worked for others. There are so many techniques we think we know and take for granted, until it's time to actually do them.

I think this would be a fantastic addition to the boards - personally, I am a very visual person so it's a lot easier for me to understand something if there is a picture to go along with the explanation. And as an added bonus, if there are tutorials for common questions that come up, it makes it very easy to just link that tutorial. (I'm thinking especially about the common questions that come up in reefs for beginniners)

So true Lissa! Thanks for getting this idea started..I just might have an aiptasia that needs a lesson from you!:fishhit: (<--aiptasia, not Lissa!)

I suppose it's time to put our thinking caps on and list the potential tutorials (pics & instructions) that are already contained within the forums that folks have found useful.
Add to that a list of what we'd like to see added so the next person who undertakes the task is sure to take pics with a tutorial in mind!

Wouldn't hurt to find a friendly mod who could help with this?? Any volunteers?
