If you have an AquaController (or not) you might want to check out my site at Reef Tank. I went a little overboard. Every device in my tank can be controlled from the website.

Pictures of the tank are also available. The tank is less than two months old, and I'm going slow with the livestock, so the tank may look a little sparse.

Let me know what think.

Enjoy.

Just a bit over my head but hey, most everything is

As far as the photo's of the tank, try turning off all the lights in the room and using just the lights on the tank--and without a flash (it seems to wash out a lot.)

Very impressive. The website does not look like a casual effort. Great work!

Richwill,

Very impressive technical effort on the control panel. So if I click on the buttons, am I really affecting your tank (hope not), or do you have the controls locked out?

What type of programming/software are you using to allow buttons to interact with and affect hardware on your computer/controller?

If you don't mind my asking, how are you acomplishing this web-site interface. I am getting an AquaController II and would love to have this functionality.

>Beautiful! Are you using the AQC I OR II? The site controls an AQC II.

Yes it is live. All the controls that actually do anything are password protected though. It should (!) be secure from potential hacking.

I wrote a simple command line app to send commands to the AQC via it's serial port. Then I whipped together a little Java app and some bash (linux or cygwin on win32) scripts to process the data. The web site controls the tank with cgi bash scripts and the serial port program. It's all running on Win2K, but could also run on linux.

A couple of people have asked if I'll make the site available as 'open source'. If I get enough interest I think I will.

The requirements to run the site are pretty steep: you need a dedicated machine to host the site and a machine (could be the same machine) physically attached to the AQC's serial port. I've thought about using the AQC's modem interface instead. Then you wouldn't need to have a machine co-located with AQC, just a modem and phone line.

Dude - thats awesome. Probably one of the coolest personal uses for the web Ive seen - Could you make a sight like that to control x-10 stuff ? essentially the same as the aquacontroller, the x-10 controllers and modules use basically (if not exactly?)the same language as the aquacontroller2 - if you could template the site then even more people could use this than reefers - imagine being able to run your dishwasher from work or turn on your vcr + tv from your office to record something that you didn't know was coming on until someone mentioned it at the watercooler....

Id make it and license it. You'd have a customer in me...

Good luck and great programming!

Yes, definitely. The AquaController just uses X10 devices. There are a few utilities out there that let you control X10 devices. I know the ActiveHome package lets you control modules from the command line.

>if you could template the site then even
>more people could use this than reefers
Could be cool to make a generic X10 control site, but how many people run personal web servers at home?

Not a glitch. I added a 30G refugium. The probes were out of the water for a while. I'm hoping that the refugium will help stabilize the daily ph and ORP swings. I'm going to run it with an inverted lighting period.

Its an amazing time to be alive....to watch technology and art merge; a dream realized...or justification for all the stolen lunch money and wedgies as a kid. Well at least it warms the cockles of this nerds heart.

Richwill,
Very nice web set up.

I'm in the process of doing just that, using java and IIS.

Is there a way we can talk ?

P.S I think neptune systems are going to come up with somthing similar.
