I just added two 3/4" Sea Swirls to my 180 along with an Amp Master 3000. Wow! What a difference! Much nicer than all those powerheads and wave maker.

Mike, I tried the 1" SS and this is what I found.
1. Noise - my tank is located in the B/R and it was quite loud.
2. Had to add a PVC coupling to bring the output further down in the tank because of water being pushed up on the front of the tank.
3. Drilled a couple of 1/2" holes in the side of the output because it was blowing a trench in my sand on the front glass.
I think the Y defuser would have helped with this problem but never did try it.

What size pump to run a 3/4 inch sea swirl ?

The 3/4" Sea Swirl is rated at 850 gph.

does the size of the return to the sump matter if its a built in overflow ?

Adjust your flow rate, if necessary, just as you would without a Sea Swirl--by adjusting the gate valve on the output of your return pump.

No comments on my post above???

Well, let me rephrase the question. Would a pair of 1" Sea Swirls be able to handle the flow from an Iwaki MD100 pump? And would that be enough flow for the top half of my tank?
