When we do get in some of these hard to keep items (wholesalers will make substitutions without asking)
We ALWAYS make sure to tell the person about the needs of the animal,and if they dont seem to know or if we think they cant keep it ,we wont sell it to them.We have had people leave the store mad at us because we wouldnt sell them something.But later they come thank us for not selling them one like the other stores did(and they lost the stuff anyway).I know this does not happen at every LFS,but it should.I think it all boils down to the owner/manager to make sure they have a very knowlegable staff to be able to make those decisions.
