Dripping Kalk for the first time. I have a 70gal. and it evaporates about 1gal a day. I would like to use kalk for that. Would that be good to drip?? Any advise would be appreciated....
i mix mine for several hours with a powerhead, let it sit for six to eight hours, then drip with a kent doser. i evaporate about a gallon a day also.i mix 2 teaspoons per gallon. ive haerd about the vinegar additions but i prefer it a little simpler.
My tank has been set up for a year now. Just now turning it into a reef tank. Allready have a cleanup crew and a few fish. It's been dripping all night now. Im going to let it drip today too until it runs out. I'll check the parameters later today. I think it should be fine. Just a little worried about dripping it during the day.
I would recommend doing it now. So, your system gets ready as you load corals in it. I use a Kent valve and mix Kent kalk in a 6 gallon rubbermaid container. If your cycle is already stable, add a cleanup crew to it.
I just use a paint stick from Home Depot, drill a couple of holes on the stick and just mix the solution. Then, i connect my Kent valve drip system tube to the 6 gallon container and let it drip away. Usually, it doesn't start dripping right away. It takes about 30 min. or so then it slowly drips.
