Hi everyone-

I've found a few past threads mentioning ThatFishPlace (the actual store). Does anyone have an opinion of the online ThatFishPlace.com?

From what I've seen, their prices look good. Just wondering what to expect in terms of service and delivery from the online store. Are they trustworthy?

Thanks-

Goph

I purchased my Turbofloter skimmer from them and a few books. I didn't have any problems.
Shipment arrived on time. Prices are in line with other places.

I use them all the time. If you live in the area, you won't beat their prices ever. Not even when you add in shipping charges. And, if there's a mistake, they correct it immediately. Very good customer service, and I have been using them for years, ever since I started with marine aquariums.

I have been to the brink and mortar store as well as the online.

The online store has competitive prices and a good selection. Check their sales area. A couple of weeks ago they had Selcon on sale for $5 and change. I didn't have enough for an order, so I had to pass on it.

Besides the items we would buy, they also have a good cheesy selection of junky stuff -like PennPlax.

I never ordered from them by mail but I drive there about 4 times a year and when I need large items. No place in Baltimore can touch their prices. highly recommended

I have ordered from them numerous times without any problems. Twice I recieved broken merchandise. The glass canopy was returned and replaced within the week. The other was a HOT wet/dry that someone got me for my birthday. I let it sit in it's box for 2 months. When I finally opened it I found it was broken. Breakages are supposed to be reported immediately. When I told them why it tooks soo long, they understood and took it back without any problems.

IMO they have good customer service. Prices are pretty good too.

Thanks everyone!

I placed an order with ThatFishPlace.com for a Hagen Fluval 404 to replace my 403. I've read quite a few good reviews of it- so I hope it holds up to their words.

For comparison on the 404:
ThatFishPlace.com - $109 incl media
Petsmart.com - $135
Petsmart B&M - $170
Petco B&M - $200
AquariusPetSupplies.com - $140
BigAlsOnline.com - $89 (oops, didn't find this one until I had already ordered)

WOW!

Thanks Davelin! It never hurts to ask. I called them back and told them I found it cheaper (after my order). The rep asked her supervisor and they approved the refund.

They're already scoring good marks in my book!

I wouldn't have canceled the order- as I'm counting on this filter to arrive before I go on vacation. There's a plastic piece on my current filter that is being held together by SuperGlue right now. It's really going to put my mind at ease if I don't have to think about my filter puking out while I'm away.

I guess I'll be the bad guy. I used them for years and was very pleased with all aspects of their business. Three or four years ago I noticed a definate attitude difference from almost all of their employees. One of the women in customer service gave me so much crud over a two week period over a couple of minor problems I had that I decided to try Pet Warehouse. They are fantastic to deal with and the prices and products are almost identical to That Fish Place. Plus on any order (unless too big or too heavy) you get 2nd day delivery for an extra $3.95. As opposed to about $20 most places.

I have ordered from them a lot. I have had to return at least four items. Three were broke when I got them and the other was not even the right order. Every time I called them they fixed the problems by either sending me a new one or refunding the money. They always blamed the damaged items on UPS. They may have been right since I have had problems with broken items shipped via UPS in the past. Over all I would recommend them since they do have good prices and a huge selection. The main reason I order from them is because they are only five hours away from me so shipping is very fast. For large items I always shop around on the net first since there are some cheeper places to buy from on some items.

One thing's for sure... they have a great PR department! They've just donated another 72 gallon tank, and hood for the huge raffle at MACNA XIII.

Hows this for CS.
I live an hour away, I called the # 1888thatpet, to find out if they have a eheim part in stock. The person said yes we have a lot of these in are dist. warehouse. So I said well Ill come pick one up at the retail store. She said well although it says we have it in our comp that doesnt mean we have it. Call the actual retail store Long Distance and see if they have it. So I called the 717 # gave the person a discription and item # from eheim. They came back "yes it says we have lots in the comp. but that doesnt mean much, do you want me to go phyically look?" I said yes please do, so I dont waste a drive out there. He came back yes we have it and I put it on hold for you. Great I drove an hour out there to find the wrong part. I got cust service, and they said, "well thats a daytime thing what do you want me to do about it"? and then the cust. service rep walked away. I got anouther kid to look for it but no that part wasnt in stock. ALL there fish with a few minor exceptions are cyanide caught fish, a employee admited this to me after I complained about the death rate of there fish. They claim to save over 60% on retail store but compare most prices and they only save a few dollars. I go to the hidden reef now where the employees know there stuff and prices are only slightly higher. It isnt worth supporting a pet place where there prices are cheaper but all the employees are 15 year old kids who keep goldfish. They dont care anything about there livestock and if you dont have a reciept even if the box is unopened they give a 25% restocking charge. This is IMO of the retail store.

Undoubtedly every store has it's strengths and weaknesses, and all will make mistakes at some point. The important thing is how they go about remedying the situation.

From what I've seen, people tend to have a better opinion of the online store than the retail store. Guess the saying is true- "If your dot com sucks, you lose your dot"

Wasabi- thanks- I noticed that, too, and TFP gave me a refund for the difference.

As for UPS- they're a company I've really lost respect for. The company I work for only ships UPS and stuff sent next day or 2-day is commonly late. Packages we receive are usually crushed to some degree about 75% of the time. I've had documents in tubes (thick tubes) show up completely crushed and damaged. On the flip side- rarely does a FedEx package show up to our office late or damaged.

ThatFishPlace.com held true to their word and credited $20 back to me for the price difference (found after my purchase). My Hagen Fluval 404 (ordered Sun) showed up Thursday via UPS Ground- not bad.

In regard to the 404- WOW! They really improved this filter in every way possible! I had the 403 previously and every flaw in it was addressed in the 404. Better construction, MUCH easier maintainance and access. Quick release valves. More media chambers, longer flow through. And the single powerhead seems to provide MUCH better flow/circulation than the old 403 with a spraybar (quieter, too!).

Overall- TFP.com gets a thumbs up from me. One guy's opinion.

My experience with thatfishplace has been pretty good. However, everytime I tried to place an order at least one or more items were backordered or not available. I got sick of it and started ordering from premium aquatics. As far as I can tell the prices are similar and these guys are better suited, in terms of knowledge and merchandise, to meet the needs of most people on this board.

I started using thefishplace after Pet Warehouse told me they would beat their prices, then they charged me full price on the invoice and I was told someone was ill informed, and I was out of luck. So far I have been really pleased with ThatFishPlace, but Pet Solutions has the Prizm skimmer for only $69. Looks like some healthy competition!
