Hmm...So let's see if we have a good response here...

i thought they had a reputation for eating fish and stuff.
Yup. Looks like a good answer to me.

Kirtis, when are you going to understand that we are trying to help you. Even after you make some inappropriate remarks to some of the long term reef tank or fowlr tank owners, they have still tried to help you. You need to slow down, unless you want to add to the decimation occuring to reefs around the world. just check out the thread on "the dark side of reefing". None of us really wants you to have a tank failure, even with some of the responses you have made to them (if for the animals sake than no other). Now if all your advice is from the LFS you talked about early on, don't complain to us about a differing opinion. Remember, some LFS's are in it for whatever money they can get, consequences be damned. One here, that I and several others won't visit again, sold a Regal Angel to a 10 year old kid with a new 45 gallon tank. Most very accomplished reefers wouldn't try to keep this fish, as its main diet is sponges, and has a very hard time eating anything else. When one of us tells you to slow down, we aren't telling you your an idiot, we're trying to prevent you from failures that are guarenteed to happen when you hurry along your tank. Now as far as brittle stars, many are pisciveres (fish eaters). I don't know if any are considered 100% fish safe. If there are, I'm sure someone will tell you.

Well I guess I missed whatever other thread is producing this reaction... but yeah, green brittle stars a nasty predators and definitely will polish off the shrimp first and then generally small fish they can catch sleeping.

Serpent stars (smooth arms) are ok.

kirtis,
I'm far from an expert on Ophiurioids, but Green Brittles tend to be alittle more aggressive feeders. If you target feed it a couple times a week with meaty foods it should behave itself, but if you forget it will do what it as to do to survive like make a midnight snack of some your sleeping fish

Hey Guys, what do you think about my new idea for a pet. Im going to get a baby Balluga Whale and keep it in the bath tub. I know your going to flame me about it but i can assure you its ok, i have an ensuite shower in my spare room i can use so i wont smell.

The only problem i can see is that this Whale might out grow the bath tub, but if i stunt its growth with ciggarettes it should be ok. It would be really easy to achive, every time the little fella pops his head up for air ill just pop a ciggarette in its blow hole, job sorted. Only thing i need from you guys is help to give him a name, i was thinking "Smokey".

I agree with Mike and Dontyoujustwish, if target fed on a regular basis, "most" green brittlestars should behave themselves. I feed mine daily, he stands in the corner and waves his arms until I feed him. Just don't neglect the feedings, and if for any reason, you come up missing fish, think of him first!

I actually have to watch my harly wrasse to make sure he doesn't eat me green serpent.
But ditto on the target feedings. He always comes out to eat and never bothers the other shrimp or fish.

Kirtis, great to hear. I never said you would have a tank failure. I have said that you could. The problem I see is the exact same mistake I made with my first 45 gallon when I was 14. Moved too fast, ko'd a lot of fish. (of course this was pre-w/d and pre canister filter days.) I would like to know exactly how you set up your 55, how much "old" water from your other tanks, old substrate etc. It seems unusual that you didn't get any cycle occuring.

Thats funny, in his earlier posts, he brags about already having a green brittle star. What do you suppose happened to that one? In fact he was asking about adding another star with it.

This kid has probably killed everything he has bought, but he certainly will not admit it in here.

Either that, or he is comepletely full of S***!!

At least we now one thing, he did have a brittle star before. I remember that discussion. So kirtis, is that star alive and well? Not sure if you want to put alot of them in your tank-what are the other inhabitants?
