Maybe it's just my perception, but this board seems to be drying up. The discussions are not as lively as they once were.

Many posts with NO replies or just one or two, maybe three replies. There once was a time when I would visit this board and most threads had at least a dozen or two dozen relpies.

Has negativity driven people away? Or is everyone on vacation?

Just not as exciting as it once was.

Schools have started back up these past few weeks. For parents and students that kinda is a hectic time. I definately know highway traffic has gotten alot worse these past weeks.

My personal observation is that there is definitely a shift to RC. IMO there real strong points are the expert forums, Borneman, Dr Ron, Frank, and the 10 and over group.

I agree about RC comments. And there you typically avoid the childish and useless debates that have become so commonplace on this message board.

I also have a new local message board at canreef.com which is nice. I now browse RC, reefs.org, The Reeftank, and canreef. I will say though that reefs.org is getting less and less of my time.

I think it to be many things.

School Starting

Fall is approaching and many projects to wrap up before winter.

I have rarely been to RC, too many forums IMO

Negativity has kept many of us from wanting to travel the same road with the same people who refuse to see there are many ways to skin a cat in this hobby. I particularly am amazed of how many people advise others on equipment that they have never owned?

I think it goes in cycles, I use the search function more than posting on both RC and here. Many people will ask the very same question as a post currently running?

I still feel anyone should ask any question but how many times does one really want to debate who is using the best filtration system?

It will go full circle, it always does with these boards.

I must say, I'm watching this thread with keen interest. What do you all think?

FWIW, www.reefs.org is not a discussion board, it is a very comprehensive WEBSITE. The discussion board could have one member (me, to post this! :) and www.reefs.org would be far from drying up.

If you only visit the discussion board, you are missing out on a lot.

Cheers

Been here since the start. Will be here till the end (whatever that means).

I occasionally visist RC, but I find the hobbyists on reefs.org more informed (albeit sometimes more jaded). I am mildly disgusted with the heavy censorship ... er ... "moderation" done on RC's boards (Cheese will vouch for this
icon_biggrin.gif
). And I'm not too fond of all the fragmented topics.

RC's a newer board, and all BB's go through cycles.

Plus, reefs.org has a HUGE searchable information base. One can practically find any information desired via a simple search of the BB.

Right now, all boards are in a lull due to school (or lack of), summer (historically slow season for the hobby), and economy.

I'm a reefs.org lifer.

I stick with the first and the best. People go to RC because they're scattered brained. I have room and attention for only one BBS, and it's this one.

You've got that right...

I think this is a very good website. Some of the bad feelings out there may be attributed to one or two agitators from Nashua NH - people just have to understand that that sort of thing will happen (except, of course, in discussion boards that are kept antisceptically clean through constant pruning by the moderators
icon_smile.gif
).

My main site will always be reefs.org, though I'll frequent other sites as well. I'll second what James said - check out some of the other resources at reefs.org!

And, of course, I'll always be a die-hard sump dweller!

I've checked out the rest, I am staying with the best. I was saddened by seeing a couple of the experts move to other boards, but I believe there are plenty of bright minds here to enlighten us.

I like the format, wealth of archived information, surveys, and links of this well put together website.

I am a member of RC as well as RDO (reefs dot org, just made that up) as well as a coupla more boards. I believe each BB has its own positive and negative qualities (for instance, I love the spell check on RC [hint hint operators]), but I have always regarded reefs.org as the mother of all bulletin boards. When I started getting seriously into reef keeping a couple of years ago I would browse these boards, but was not a member. There has always been a caliber of knowledge here that is second to none. Even though I may be one of these "newbies" that has caused the board to lose its intimacy, I feel more comfortable here knowing that I am a part of, IMO, the most knowledgable and insightful discussions regarding reefkeeping on the internet. I have noticed many new names here and seen many old familiar names disappear. This is the natural cycle of our little culture and will always be this way. It's ok, because the newer members will absorb all the information of the older members and then some and will one day be those so highly reveared 10 and over gurus. I think we should just be comfortable in our skin and go with the flow. And while I am standing up on my soap box (forgive me); please please post replys that are specific to the topic at hand to prevent useless babble that does nothing but clutter up the post. The idea here is to get the most distilled information in a clear, concise manner. I think this alone will make for a better board.

And don't forget that Reefs.org discussion group is the only one with a She Goat.

Geez one guy manages to kill all respect out of Nashua? I almost feel bad for mentioning this board to said character except it is the number one website I recommend to all of my customers.

Personally I kinda think there is so much overlap that it really doesn't matter what board you are on the information is the same. Anything hot over on RC or any other forum gets posted here eventually and vice versa. Personally of all the boards I think that reefs.org is the most professionally run of all of them. We just need to get some fresh speakers in the chat room.

Since when did reefing become a competitive sport? In my opinion we all have the same goal, that is to take care of our chosen animals to the best of our ability. Where we get our information is irrelevent as long as it's good information!! That means reading and evaluating the input we get no matter where it comes from, and questioning input that doesn't ring true. 98% of the info most of us need is already on the web. As James pointed out, the other parts of reefs.org is a wealth of information !! I often refer people to RDO for a reference/answer to questions they have asked.

Remember, we're all in this together. Hang out where you feel comfortable, but don't diminish the value of any board, they all contribute to the hobby

fwiw, imo,etc,

I am a reef site junkie, lately I have hung out at reefcentral, just because I got an unbelievable deal there in the classifieds. I totally respect the advice I have gotten here, it just seems as though people have stopped giving their advice that I know I relied upon in the early days of my reef keeping. More often than not, I will post my questions to both. The people that I respect the most are Randy Holmes-Farley and Greg Hiller (I have been to Greg's and it is a reefers wet dream!). I actually noticed that Randy has been posting to RC lately. I also have utmost respect for the Inland Aquatics guys, especially Tom. I just moved to the area and I plan to visit soon, but honestly will call first to make sure he is there before I go. Of the both, I will always like reefs.org better because I like cheese sandwitch in the sump and the advise is more well thought out, when you get it. More often than not you get flamed for stupid things that most people do, but are afraid to admit it for fear of being ridiculed. All in all I visit 2 boards daily and this is one of them.

I feel so emotional..... I love you guys.....
