You did everything right Ryan. Sometimes the clownfish just don't cooperate! If you can catch the female, you might consider trading them both back to a store and purchasing a proven pair.

I recently tried to add a TINY male A. sandarcinos clown to an aquarium containing a much larger and older female. She battered the male for days until finally killing him. I thought the aggression would pass, which is why I left the male in there. And this is a relatively docile species!

Greg,
If I could find a local store that would do that, I'd be all over it. I've never seen a store around here even offer pairs of any clown species. A lot of them don't seem very interested in trades either. Most of them will take my fish, but offer nothing in return. Do you think another small clown would be more likely to pair with the small male? Maybe if I could trade my adult for another small male they would eventually form a pair? I know there is no garuntee, but would that approach work better? I'm not sure how long I want to continue trying with the poor little guy. I don't want to kill him.
thanks again for your input,

Ryan,

You chances are certainly better if you put two small males in the tank simultaneously. Perhaps the store would trade you a another small male for your female?

OK, I'm going to give it another shot this week, the small male spend his time since wednesday in the critter cage, right in the middle of the tank. Last night I caught the large female and put her in the sump and released the small male into the tank. Wednesday night I plan to put the female back in the main tank and see how it goes. Hopefully it's not the same result as last week.

Very Nice Garry,
Is that a gold stripe with a regular maroon? I often wondered if I could try a pair like that.

Thanks,

Well I promised an update once I tried to pair them again, so here it is. There really isn't much to report, I took the female out of the sump and put her back in the main tank with the male. At fist she completely ignored him, and once she started to feel a bit more comfortable she chased him away from her after he swam near her for a little while, but it was no where near as aggressive as it was last wek. After that happen a few times they just stayed at seperate sides of the tank. The male seems to stay close to the side so he can escape to the top corner if she chases him, but he seems to have staked out a safe area where he can leave the corner and do his thing. They both ate last night when I fed the tank. There isn't much use to report, hopefully they will deside they like each other soon.

Those look like GS to me, judging by how fat the stripes are. I have a WS female and GS male, and I've been told they will mate just fine.
