I really want one but don't want him to be nipping at my LPS and SPS corals. I'm looking for some first hand experiences with these fish. Thanks guys :)

I had one for over a year and he never gave the corals a second thought. He recently disappeared and I am about to get another one. However, each fish is an individual, so we shall see :)

Reef safe but if you have a flame angle in your tank now he will kick the beauties but. The coral beauty needs to be put in the tank first because he's the less aggressive fish.

We've had a Coral Beauty in our reef tank for about 10 months with no problems, only joy. He or she is a great fish.

your going to get mixed reviews here because with all fish you just never know if it was wild cought on a reef bed it might feed on them tank raised more likely not to, but as it was stated before it a risk because you just dont really know, how ever i have seen this fish in numerous reef tanks doing just fine ignoring the corals, more than likely you will be fine but there is still a risk i would guess you have like a 10% chance of getting a coral eater, if you really like the fish more than the coral i would say go get one.

Never had a problem with mine, but I have heard plenty of stories. I think there's no way to really know, we just have to allow for their little personalities. However, if I were going to go on an odds kinda thing, I would say that odds are that a CB won't eat the corals.

Pirate is spot on about the Flamer.

Allow me to hijack this thread for one question. Do coral beauties (or any angelfish) have special dietary requirements, or will they eat from the normal variety of foods such as mysis shrimp, prime reef, cyclopeez, formula one, and spirulina flakes?

my coral beauty has never shown any interest in any of my corals.
he grazes on the algae growing on the live rock a little, but thats it.

he will eat almost any food i drop in the tank, the one thing i noticed he wont eat is the lifeline carnivore, i think because its made of fish flesh,
and he just wont eat fish meat.

I had one eat EVERY acropora in my tank!!!! I had to empty a 265 to catch it. Did I mention it ate EVERY acropora in my tank. I am not saying they all do it. I had one in the past that did no harm. You just never know. If you add one, watch him!

all dwarf angels, are, at the best, a 50/50 crap shoot

coral beauties have the least likelihood of eating corals-but the chance still exists

the dwarf angel group, is, for a large part, pickers and grazers, and they appreciate a nice amount of vegetable matter in their diet

most of the coral eating issues seem to start almost by 'accident'-the angel picks at a polyp, while doing it's normal 'picking and grazing' thing, accidentaly gets a polyp, and if it decides that it likes the taste-the problem begins

fwiw-i had a coral beauty for about 4 yrs.,and i never had a problem w/it, and, to the best of my knowledge, the friend i gave it to when i broke the tank down had no problems w/it, either

i have had plenty of customers who have had problems with it, though-
it may have been due to lack of a varied diet offered the angel, or the lack of algaes for it to graze on

which would you say are more reef safe...flame angels or CBs? I am currently deciding which dwarf angel to get for my 29g. I have heard some people say that flame angels are the most safe, some say that potter's are the best, and now you are saying the CBs are the safest. What do you reccomend?

None..........well thats to drastic but I have a 29 gallon and my Dwarfs(Flame and Bicolor) croaked within two weeks. I had them at different times. I have had no problems with any other fish in the last 7 months. I am thinkin about gettin a Centrropyge Aurantonotus (Flame Back) in the future. I feel that the Angels are a "roll of the dice" fish for the reef.

flames and lemon peels are the highest risk, followed by the potter's, and flamebacks, with the coral beauty and pygmy being the safest

your mileage may vary

well thanks for the advice...but I am getting a dwarf angel. I have gotten mixed opinions, but it seems that many people seem to think I could keep a dwarf angel happy in my 29g, and I have heard many stories of people succesfully keeping flames, CBs, and even bicolors in 29g tanks (although I wouldnt attempt a bicolor). Anyway, could someone just tell me which they consider the most reefsafe out of the dwarf angels I listed?

Oh, sorry...seems you got that post in before I got to reply.

Alright, thanks. Ill probably go with a CB. I just have one question though...I currently have a six-line in the tank as my only fish. My last two fish are going to be a false perc clownfish and the CB. Which should I add first?

The Clown.............wait three to four weeks then add the Angel. My TR Perc does not bother anything in my tank.

none of those fish should bother each other to any major extent, if at all.

add whichever is most convenient for you to add first.they should all get along extremely well :)
