what type of polyp/mushroom is this, if any? also if you look to the right, what type of coral is that? This is on my newly bought, still curing gulf-view rock!

thats aptasia? I have seen aptasia before and this really doesnt look like it. The tentacles on this thing are striped or banded. the ones i have seen before look more like orangish brownish.

I agree with the other posters, whether it is a curley cue or aiptaisa, I would get rid of it before it reaches plaque proportions.

What is the brownish coral a the top left of the photo? I have some of this on some Gulf View rock I bought and just never bothered to inquire as to what it is. Anyone?

Thanks,

Lee

1.Send this pic and info to Dr.Ron.
2.I dont think that is aiptasia. The color is nice but it does look like a nuisance anemone. Watch it and make sure it does not multiply. Again, ask dr.ron.

Not knowing Dr. Ron, I would suggest that you throw the query out to the wetwebmedia crew. (Frontpage, here I come!) Without a taxonomic name for the "curly que" anemone, how would we know that it's not also within the Aiptasia genus?

Curly-q is Bartholomea and I think not usually as much a problem. This one, I dunno- I'll guess Aiptasia.

It may be more attractive that other specimens you've seen, but believe me, that is an Aiptasia sp. anenome. If you need photographic proof, I believe I could provide some. But, take my word for it, it IS Aiptasia sp.

I can not ID this thing, but I have had one in my reef for the 2.5 years my tank has been in exsistance. Only the one, and has never spread. Should I nuke the baby, or just put a plug of epoxy over it?

I think it's Stephanocoenia. I have a bunch on my gulf-view rock as well.
