nutri-seawater

Hi! Everyone:

I just picked up a 4.4 gal bottle of nutri-seawater. 11,000,000 bacteria per gal of water.Tank will automatically be cycled. the bottle stated it is natural seawater. since I have a 12 gal nano & soon to be 30 gal cube it would be better for me to buy this water that mix my own. all nutrients in the water.

anyone hear of this product & opinions.

I have used it for water changes before no problems.

Instant cycle is not true, the rock and wether it is cures will decide that. Sand as well.

It's a fine, but expensive alternative for smaller cured tanks. Be sure to test the salinity, calcium and other levels before adding to an established tank....they are not usually spot on.

is it a better idea to use some 1 water thats already cycled. Thats what i did to my 6 gallon nano. Just took water from my main system and not much cycling needed....:sleeping:

As Chief alluded earlier, it's not the water that needs cycling as much as the live rock and sand. 100% "mature" water with uncured live rock will result in a cycle.

I have used it twice...for water changes its not that bad... and to start of a new nano it would work to.... i wouldnt keep using it more than that due to some die off of in the water...

I will not add that much live rock, a majority of the rock would be base rock with live sand. the 30 gal cube will house a mated pair of true percs. anenome to come later with 150 watt hqi. since this water contains a 11,000,000 bacteria per gal it will seed the base rock. I will add the anenome 2 months later once I feel the tank is settled. I will filter with a 21 gal fuge with pods & mangrove plants. my filter would be 70% volume of the main tank.

Starting from scratch, a healthy reef tank will take more than 2 months to settle, especially with plans of an symbiotic anemone.

I have used NSW that I get locally in my tank for water changes since last year. My corals have never looked better. In fact I had a problem with my Zoo's staying closed for a long time until I switched to NSW since then the Zoo's have never closed for any length of time.

Hi! Guys:

if the claims of this sea water are correct, then the tank should be matured immediately. On the box it claims if you use 100% of the nutri-seawater then your tank is ready to add animals immediately. If you use their sea-water with other saltwater then a cycle would be required. I might just test out their claims. It has a 1year expiration (shelf life) date. I understand the apprehension but maybe this products claims are accurate. I will not have a large bio-load with only 2 percs in a 30 gal cube. I will see if it acutally goes through a cycle by adding the percs & testing the water. I will keep a log. especially if I can figure out how to use my AC jr controller. I will connect the controller to my computer to keep a log. We cycle to build up an adequate bacteria level to handle the bio-load, if this water already has the bacteria which it claims then there should be no cycle.

I don't think the box is taking live rock/sand into consideration. It may be mature enough to sustain a Fish Only tank. Once again, a tank cycle is maturation of the substrate (live rock/sand) and not the water.

O.K. Guys:

I usually cycle my tanks with fish, not uncured live rock. I will add some cured live rock to my base rock. My 12 gal nano has been cycle with the percs & they are doing great of course because of the small water volume, I do a 10% water change on wednesday & a 20% water change on saturday.

i've used nutri-seawater in the past and it's always had a salinity level of 1.027

I can't recommend using this stuff. I have tested several containers and always gotten different salinity, phosphate, and nitrate readings. Also, if you insist on using this stuff please be wary of the expiration date (and sometimes it doesn't even have to be expired to be bad). I've opened myself and had people return containers because when they opened it it immediately smelled like something died. Like anything in this hobby take all the amazing miracle claims with a grain of salt.

I've used them on my old tank when I had to do a water change and forgot to fire up my RO/DI in the AM. So I would buy 3-4 of them, and I agree with whoever said to test them b4 using them. I did get 2 that were off on their salinity, I didn't get any with PO4 though.

And def hold on to the containers, they make great top off storage containers. And if you have the ability, you can put a hole in the bottom, run some airline tubing (Or IV tubing if you can get it) and use it as an automatic top off. If I went away for a weekend, I would hook up 2 of them like that and drip them in about one drip every 3-4 secs, and when I got back on sunday night, my tank would only need about 1 gallon more for top off.

maybe I was lucky but there wasn't any bad smell & the salinity was a little high @1.28 but I added a gal of RO water to bring down the salinity to 1.24.
