ive never been stung before...what is it like? should i worry? or is it pretty minor? i saw my snowflake jab himself several times on the lion and hes doin ok, but the zebras eye is ouchy lookin.

Very painful to humans, and I assume to all mammals. I've never been stung, but have talked to plenty of folks who have who wanted to saw their arms off after getting stung. I've READ that fish are not affected much by it, unless stung in the eye as you decribed. Of course, it could be a syptom of a disease.

The toxin in a lionfish is the same type of toxin in a bee. Some people are not allergic to bee stings at all, others need to be rushed to the hospital for treatment to prevent death. It all depends on ones allergy. I was once pricked in the thigh by the dorsal spine of a Blck Violtan Lionfish and was scared shitless until I was told about it being similar to a bee sting. Sure enough the swelling was the same and I was fine.

I got stung by my Volitans, or should I say I stung my self, wasn't his fault, I stuck my hand in and accidentally hit one of the spines.

Hurt like hell for about 6 hours, finger swelled up a bit, stiff the next day, but overall not too bad

I was a bit more careful after that

I've never heard of anyone killed by a lionfish. Every person I've talked to who has been stung by a Pterois lionfish has experienced considerably more pain than a bee sting.

Moray eels are not poisonous or venomous at all. A zebra moray might be able to break a finger or something, but you'd have to be trying to do it. They aren't exactly great hunters, and their teeth are like pebbles. I'm guessing he would let go after finding out you weren't a crab, shrimp, or squid. Mine won't even eat fish flesh.

I have been stung by a Foxface Lo. Felt like someone stabbed my finger with a needle and hit my bone! Wasnt gonna go to the hospital untill I Lost mobility and felt paralized(hand).

Long story short, they gave me a vicatin and sent me home. That little bastard(vicatin not the fish) cost me around 450 buxs!! 8O
