burb... be.. bu.....jibber.... eh. tweak!!!!!
Ok, cOn, lets start with you. Besides having shocking husbandry for a start lets have a look at a hyperthetical 125 (please note these are UK gallons so your figure will be slightly less)
Dimensions: 152cm L x 61cm W x 61cm H/60" L x 24" W x 24" H
Surface area: 0.93 sq m/10.00 sq ft/1440 sq inches
Volume: 566 l./125 gal.
Volume after displacement: 510 l./112 gal.
System type: Reef tank
Total stocking density: 28"/71cm of fish (built up gradually)
ok now lets see what you (or your dad) have compared to a possible maximum of 28inches of fish.
Nasau Tang - Adult length 20 inches (ooh only 8 inches left)
Sailfin Tang - Adult length 16 inches (well thats blown it)
Hippo Tang - Adult Length 12 inches (oh dear)
Yellow Tang - Adult Length 8 inches
Purple Tang - Adult Length 10 inches
Sgt Major - Adult Length 6 inches
Green Chromis x 6 - Combined Adult length 18 inches
Lawn Mower Blenny - Adult lengh 3 inches
Tomato Clowns x 2 - Combined Adult lengh 7 inches
Coral Beuty angel fish - Adult length 4 inches
and the grand total is........ 104 inches, ok so thats only three times your possible limit, and youve managed this within a year, OMG!!!!!!! you have some sereous issues to sort out my freind. And dont give me any "but the LFS guy said so" you have to be joking. Not to mention that all of this is being run with a DIY skimmer, give me strength.
ok, im dreading this but here we go, Gobyman your next
ok 180G + 50G + 50G (see im not here to make an example, this is accurate)
280G Hyperthetical tank size
Dimensions: 218cm L x 76cm W x 76cm H/86" L x 30" W x 30" H
Surface area: 1.66 sq m/17.92 sq ft/2580 sq inches
Volume: 1269 l./279 gal.
Volume after displacement: 1142 l./251 gal.
System type: Reef tank
Total stocking density: 63"/160cm of fish (built up gradually)
again UK gallons so your figure will be slightly less, and with 63" of fish and 21 of them thats an average adult length of 3 inches per fish, somehow i think your over but lets break it down for you.
yellow (4.5) - Adult length in inches 8
scopas (4.5)- Adult length in inches 12
hippo (3.5)- Adult length in inches 12

dusky jawfish (2.0) - Adult length in inches 3
Banner butterfly (1.0) - Adult length in inches 10
fathead anthias (6 months) - Adult length in inches 4
and your grand total is.... 129, and your maximum (very generous maximum to boot) 63. so your one and a half times over your limit.
Oh and yes I'm sure I've broken every rule about having too many fish and corals, but my tank is running strong and as you can see from above everything is growing and healthy.
for one there is no rule about too many corals, we grow reefs, reefs are made of coral, goes to show what mickey mouse school of reef keeping you subscribe too.
And how exactly are we to know that these fish are healthy from your stock list, presumably by the same methods you devise from, ignorance!!
For any noobs out there reading this post, dont be fooled, it cant be done, problems will insue, death will take hold and rot will set in. Besides the disasterous husbandry these two systems exhibit, the stocking levels are way over board. And i bet neither of them have a hospital tank, just one fish is all thats needed to take down the entire system. More money than sence.
Ill give my advice for free, though i feel that these words have probably been ignored in the past, because "oh yes, your doing something of such cutting edge brilliance that means that all the natural laws of chemistry and bio-ecology just fall to the wayside in your greatness", wake up and smell the skimmate lads.
as fish keepers we have a responsibility to ensure the well being of our livestock throughout the entire of its existance, adult fish lengths do matter.
