I assume everybody runs their lights for approximately 12 hours a day (10 hours main, 2 hours supplimental)

Even if you don't run your lights for 12 hours, please select the time that is most "centered" around your photoperiod.

I'm interested in figuring out how offset from "localtime" people run their tanks.

I currently run mine from 10 to 10. I'd like to run them later in the day and still stay on a 12 hour cycle but my tank sits in a room that gets residual light throughout the day and I read somewhere that this might stress fish out as it mimics dawn/dusk when when most predators feed. Any validity to this?

I'm like David, only I run them from 6pm til 2am. I find that is plenty long enough.

I voted 10AM - 10PM but I really have them come on at 1PM. 9 hours seems to be plenty.

Mine come on at 4PM-12 midnight during the summer and 4PM-4AM during the winter. I am not home before 7 PM, so it is wasted viewing time before that. Also, by running them at night during the summer, it helps with the heat load. In the winter, I can use all the heat I can get, so it works out best then too.

I run mine from 7am to 12 pm, then 3 pm to 10 pm

I don't know if that is the way to do it, but it allows me to get the fish up and awake in the morning to feed them and also allows me to see them at night

Mine comes on from 7:30am-9pm. That way I can feed them before I go to work, and I usually have a light on in the room their in until about 10pm so the fish have a chance to find their hiding spots, and my clownfish has a chance to squeeze into his anemone like a sleeping bag.
