Short of my wanting to correct your posts' grammar and spelling and send them back, but alas, I digress. Do you realize you are contradicting yourself right here?

A Blueface IS expensive at retail - for several reasons: 1) The market can support an expensive retail price (read: people are willing to pay, or the fish will become a permanent resident at the store, or eventually leaves in a trash bag.). 2) Shorter supplies and increased mortality ::: Insert Church Lady Voice here::::: hmmm could that be because of, ummm CYANIDE???). You said it yourself - increased risk of mortality. Most angels are fairly sturdy - if they are caught properly and handled and packed properly, they survive just fine if they can be stimulated to feed (sure, there are exceptions...). That's a big IF - to be caught and handled properly.

Not even close Jen, A blueface cost the same as about thirty Mandarins at the collector {Thirty bucks}But the thirty mandarins cost twice as much as the blueface at retail {or four times if shopping at your store} :wink: .....Which fish is the "Market" most strongly supporting? What im referring to with the "risk" is that it only takes one fish death when shipping the Angel and its a total loss.{one per box}.and the box costs three times more then the angel.....with mandarins at eighty per box one fish death is a minor.set back.......My Emporators from Vanuatu are in those boxes for forty hours........I would like to see you last that long without pissing in the bag or poking a hole with you finns........Big fish have a much harder time during shipping { and require more water} thats why they cost what they do.........not because of what the collector charges........

Four times at my store? Heh considering I've never brought in a Blue Face, and I don't carry mandarins at all, that's a pretty nifty statement. I don't feel the need to run down your store to make myself look better, why would you choose to run down mine?

You forgot to count the fact that 28 of the mandarins will starve to death, so what does that leave you with?

The most expensive fish is a DEAD fish.

Actually, no, the original post in this thread talked about an article about cyanide use in the collection of food fish. Somewhere down the road it deviated to supply and demand (Economics 101) and when that didn't get you anywhere you decided to make presumptions about my business practices.

I have nothing further to add to this discussion that could even remotely be construed as constructive, so I'm just going to sit the remainder of this one out.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for you and your store...........I have family in the business and personally import and land fish and corals.............so my knowledge in this area is wide.........there seems to be a lot of misinformation welling up in this hobby.........The detour was to remind the folks at home, that high dollar fish are neither high dollar for the collectors or for retailers...{4000 collectors collecting thirty blueface angels a week} ..........if the only fish that are collected with cyanide {as the President of the AMDA Steve Cortez firmly believes} are Angles, Clown triggers and blue tangs then so few of these particular fish are imported each week, compared to other species........that this is sure proof that our hobby collectors are not to blame for the cyanide coral harm...........................compare the number of angels, blue tangs and clown triggers............maybe a few hundred boxes.to the hundreds of tons of food fish alive and frozen............... collected from the same reefs...........{.Ps if you look at the math in the previous post it suggests hat at your store make a greater profit on mandarins vs. Bluefaces then other stores "four times that of a blueface , while other stores make two times............more profit on mandarins then blueface angels...........if the blue face is cheaper at your store then so might the price of the mandarins..........?}

I understand the not selling blue face angels...................but why the Mandarins? I thought you did.{As long as the tank is well established with live rock}

For the very reason you stated. I'll order one in special for somebody who's aware of their needs and provides a suitable habitat, but if I had a dollar for every newbie who has impuslively bought one because "it was sooooooooo cute", I'd retire wealthy.

I do take in foundling mandarins from time to time when people realize that they made a mistake - but I don't bring them in without a special order.

I've never had anybody asking for a blueface either. Since most of my clients are reefkeepers, it's unlikely that they will order one either - not too many FO types here.

Now this has deviated totally off-topic. I'm done with this thread and I mean it
