Wow, check this out....

I was told by my LFS that a dead head on a torch would never grow back ! I was soo pissed when I killed it by mistake... Now look at this, this head is regenerating... You can see the dead head and you can see the larger stalk almost full size again and you can see the smaller ones growing right under it... Damn that makes me happy !!

Actually now that I look at it closer it looks less like regeneration and more like the head spilt and traveled down the skeleton because it is still attached by a very thin strand like you see with xenias...

LFS people are just a step above McDonalds in Walmart employees. I never listen to thier ramblings. In all of San Diego, I can think of only 3 people out of 10 reef stores that know thier business.

Yeah same here, I have all but given up on LFS advice. They have been wrong on nearly everything they have ever told me. The LFS I frequent the most tried by all means to discourage me from starting a refugium. They had nothing to gain from it b/c my tank had already been set up for a few years but only because they trully didn't believe in it. After I set up a DSB and refugium and took them water to test once a week for about 6 months he asked me to help him set one up for his main show tank a 400g ! A week or so later a rep from Eco-Systems was there stocking him up with refugiums, miracle mud (which I hate), and all the related goodies.

Thank god for reefs.org ! Where would my reef be without it.. ??

Dogmai, what is your primary job? :wink: Anyway, whenever people make a generalized statement, it is usually not true all the time, if any at all. So don't take it personally, or read too much into it.

It is possible that there are some tissue that still alive near the bottom of the stalk, and gradually, it grow into a little head you see in the photo. It can be misleading that most of the diagram you see on coral reproduction show you polyp division, but in fact, many of the polyps you see are generated from tissue surrounding the polyp.

Nah, that head was dead as a doornail for about a year !! Also, you can see a this membrane still attached (on the top left) to one of the heads if you look closely.. Whatever the case I'm glad it's coming back !!

Its not a matter of being mad about where you work. Pretend you're a Walmart employee. Someone makes a comment implying that Walmart employees are clueless morons. How would that make you feel? And in my case, no, it's not a matter of me not wanting to work there. For those of you who live under a rock, please let me explain something to you. McDonalds and Walmart are multi-million dollar corporations. Just because the nature of each business is to utilize some employees without a college degree, it does not mean they are unintelligent. I'll give you my situation for example. Hopefully this will explain why I get so touchy about this. When I was in high school I got a part time job at McDonalds. I became a mgr my junior year. I kept working hard and became a GM when I was 19 years old. I ran several different stores for the next three years. Now, I'm a district manager in charge of a patch of stores. I am 22 years old, I make close to 70k per year, I have a company car, and I HAVE NO COLLEGE EDUCATION. I don't say any of this to sound like a jerk, but when somebody makes a general statement mocking what brings in your bread, expect some backlash from somewhere.

I'm sure nobody meant to insult anyone, I hear it all the time about car salesmen... I own my own car buissness and I make damn good money too... When ppl say something about car salesmen, I'm the first one to laugh... it's all about you attitude... never bothers me...

I am an investigator(A good one). I am surrounded by idiot investigators that make bad arrests. Just like there are smart Walmart Mcdonalds employees and stupid ones. And I was most certainly not talking about a freaking District Manager Geez. I by no means meant to insult just be funny (Wah WAh Wahhhhh).

By the way since you slammed me......... Walk one of your stores sometime and try to get help from someone. Or better yet..see how long it takes to get a cruddy deflated cheeseburger from Mcdonalds in Walmart. While your at it....investigate your employees and find out how great of a job they are doing with your shrink. I can most certainly promise that you will be disappointed.


Lastly, I am not trying to make enemies here or insult. If we cannot make fun of ourselves then we are taking our lives way to seriously.

Like I said, I didn't mean to come off like a jerk, nor do wish to make enemies. It's just something that gets under my skin. And I'd agree with you about some of my employees not doing their job correctly sometimes. If this wasn't the case, I wouldn't have a job. The same thing goes for the "bad" investigators you spoke about. Without them being "bad" investigators, your boss wouldnt be needed.

i am a house painter, i am very used to all the ridicule( drunk, alcoholic,bum, lowlife,loser,braindead,derelect) admittedly i am a few of these names. i can take the name calling like a man, because i,m smiling all the way to the bank. i haven't lifted a paint brush for 7 years. i could sit at home and run my business from the house and i would if not for boredom. so i play the stupid shot out painter part and keep taking the verbal abuse while counting my money and living in this sad state of semi retirement. i really love having the ability to do nothing at all but play, or just nothing at all. :lol:
