No Ming that doesn't help either...once the computer gets caught up in whatever is going on, you're screwed. You need to get off and restart your computer, and usually you'll be ok then...at least until it happens again.

Whatever is happening is doing it intermitently..always a pita to solve an issue like this...

I also have run scan disc and defrag, and am still frustrated by this.
Just happy to know it isn't only me it's happening to.

I'm not seeing the problem on my end (IE7, XP Pro, AMD FX-57, 4gb mem) , but it sounds like the server isn't processing the request. Check the load levels on the server particularly the CPU load. On my webserver once in a while a program will spike the processor and I'll have similiar problems.

Outside of that... since it's not happening to everyone could be a browser / os related problem. Like someone mentioned... how many people with problems are running Vista?

Yea, I would agree since its not happening to everybody, its probably not a server issue. What browsers are you all using which are having the issue?
And have you tried using an alternate browser? like from IE to Firefox?

try resetting all your "security" n "advance" settings to default.
open IE, go to tools-internet options-security tab n advance tab
(reset... on the bottom)

it may be that some threads contain alot of data to be d/l(from pics).

check your offline cache space(IE-tools-internet options-under browsering history next to the delete tab)click on settings. click to increase the disk space.

Josh.....I recently had a similar issue on one of my sites. Sounds like you just need to recycle the default app pool. This will be transparent to all users. Set iis application pool to reycle when maximum used memory reaches about 80% of your physical memory. Worth a shot.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the memory utilization runs very low and there are only two processes (only PHP is registered within IIS) and SQL. I don't use IIS application pools since the server only runs one website.

I think there may be a network issue.

Can everyone ping the www.manhattanreefs.com for a minute and tell me the average round trip time (RTT)? (if you don't what I'm talking about please ignore this). I recently noticed a major increase in latency which may be related to dropped packets.

Thanks!

If doing an iisreset speeds up the site then it's most likely a need for automatic app pool recycle.

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 19ms, Average = 15ms

Yeah, I don't think it is IIS at this point. But on a side note, how are you maintaining state if you automatically recycle the pool? IMO that action is just covering up a runaway process, i.e. every 3 hours the process is taking 80% of resources and you need to do a fairly intrusive action to reset it.

OK, I think I experienced the problem first hand, basically my browser closed by itself when I clicked on a link (very strange behavior if this is indeed a server issue).

I just rolled back a change I made last week (I honestly can't see why this change has anything to do with this problem, but lets be sure).

So if anyone experiences this problem again, PLEASE post here.

Thanks.

The concensus seems to be specific to IE though. I'm on Firefox
