So I'm Jewish. And I observe Shabbat, which for me means that I spend Friday getting ready for Shabbat - do food shopping, spend lots of time cooking, cleaning the apartment, generally getting everything in my life ready for one huge day off. This happens every single week.

So I drop the kids off at carpool, do the shopping, come home and cook and clean and do other work that has to be done, run errands that need to be run, basically keep going non-stop till it's time to pick up the kids from school, then get back home, finish the cooking and prep, make sure everything is set, shower and put on nice clothing, maybe go to synagogue, but not necessarily, have dinner, put kids to bed, and then PASS OUT.

Since I was a kid, my body just knows to shut down some time about a half-hour after sundown on Friday. Body shuts down, and apparently, so does the brain...

Well, last night was no different -- almost. At the frag swap, I bought frozen food from Jim, and have started feeding it to my tank - with much success, i should say. the fish LOVE this stuff... But this is kind of new to my routine. I try to feed the tank about the same time we're eating dinner (tank is in the dining room)

OK... fine. So. dinner done, kids in bed, tank fed, table cleaned up, i pass out, get up in the morning and leave early for synagogue (my work)... i get home, and there is a TERRIBLE smell in the apartment. I live very close to the Hudson river, and there is a water treatment plant about 2 miles away, and sometimes, when the wind is just right, we get an "unpleasant" smell for a while... so I figure, that's it. But it never lasts for very long - and this seemed to get worse and worse throughout the day. and a bad sign is that there is NO bad smell outside or in the hallway of my building. This smell is definitely coming from my apartment

I have two cats, so I get down on my hands and knees, looking for a "surprise," but there are none - at least not on the floor. And it smells worse near the tank.

Nose over the tank - nope, not coming from the tank.

check collection cup of the skimmer - not that either...

...maybe if i ignore it, it will go away... :shhh:

not going away.

Finally, I enlist my family to help me find the source of the bad smell -

it takes about 30 seconds - seems that i left the uneaten krill in a cup of tank water on the shelf next to the tank last night.

YUCK!!!!!

...a mistake one makes ONLY once

i hope!

I can't imagine what it would have been like about 20 degrees hotter. UGH! Though I have to say, something like this happened when I was in high school...

I remember it so clearly - I drove my mom's car to school every day, and often, I gave friends rides as well - so one day i get into my car and it's that same smell - the cat MUST have gotten in, deposited a "gift" for us, and now it's decaying in the car.... I would open all the windows, the smell would abate, but I'd get home, close up the car, and in the morning - WHOA NELLIE! Forget it - it was TERRIBLE...

Search the car - nothing.

This went on for about four days. Finally, I made time to do a REALLY thorough search. And I found it - one of my friends had left a cold cut sanwich in my car - under the front seat!!!

...what i did not mention is that i lived in FLORIDA at the time!!!!
YUCK!

make a short story long... :lol2:

well last week one of my fish died - too big to flush, so i threw it in the garbage and planned to take out the garbage. note the keyword there is 'planneed' - needless to say, when i got home the next day, a pungent odor was noticeable throughout the house.
naturally my wife never did find the 'source' of the smell.

My parents live on a lake that gets a huge hatch of may flies every year. (Like cicadas but look like moths and stink like fish). I was home for a weekend and left the windows on my brand new car open. The next morning, the entire interior was covered in them (solid - no spaces). I worke VERY hard to get them all out, but my car smelled like rotten fish for the rest of its life!

Guess it's my turn...........

A few years back (actually more than a few  ) I went to a local apple orchard in the fall with my g/f. We picked apples, had some cider, ate fresh donuts, etc. Also bought some of each of those items.

I picked up an extra gallon of cider to bring to the office on Monday. While on the floor behind the driver seat the cider somehow opened up and spilled completely onto the carpet. Towels, wet/vac, baking soda, talc powder, air fresheners, nothing would take out that smell.

It gets better..........

As I said, that incident was in the fall. Well the first hot spring day the following year, the car was smelling particularly 'Apple Jack like'. I was driving up the Palisades Pkwy when all of a sudden, out from the floor under the drivers seat, up into my rearview mirror I see AT LEAST 10's of thousands of miniscule fruitflies. My car was immediately containing a swarm worthy of Animal Planet.

After I stopped the car, exhaled them out my nose and spit them from my mouth, I waited over an hour before I could re-enter my car. I donated the car soon after. I couldn't sell it in good conscience.
